As many of you may know, this is a relaunch. We learned so much and gained such valuable insight from our first campaign. My sister Erin helped me on our first campaign with all the prep work, contacting suppliers/manufacturers, scripting our first video, etc. Without her help, I would have struggled to even get it off the ground!
Now, I've taken that knowledge and continued working toward my goals even though our funding wasn't successful the first round. I've reworked some tiers, played with new designs, met with manufacturers, nailed down some important details, solidified a first order of elastic, etc...
Revamped and ready to go, I present to you The Sushi Wallet, take 2....
WHAT IT IS:
The Sushi Wallet is a minimalist, slim wallet made of a 3 inch strip of heavy-duty elastic with a colored trim edge. It holds anywhere from 2-6 cards comfortably (but I'll admit, I cram more than that into mine) and has a cash pocket in the front with a bottom seam to keep your money from slipping through. For those of you excited about using the all new COIN for your cards, the Sushi Wallet is the perfect alternative to the bulky wallet you've needed in the past. I've worked diligently on prototyping, design and materials to make the Sushi Wallet a high quality product. Since the demand has surpassed what I can handle on my own, I decided I will take the Sushi Wallet to the next level one way or another.
HOW IT STARTED:
The Sushi Wallet has humble and modest beginnings- like so many great products, it all began with a need...
The first Sushi Wallet was made for my brother Josh, around two years ago when he asked me to make an elastic band to hold his cards- in hopes of ditching his bulky leather wallet. I bought elastic and bias tape at the fabric store and created what is now the "Sushi Wallet." He loved it and started using it immediately and daily. Josh then moved to India where it has received lot of hard use and is still holding up great. I've made them for most of my friends and family... and then recently Josh called me to tell me it's holding up so great and that it needs to be a Kickstarter. So... here we are.
HOW IT'S GOING DOWN:
I am actively working with a local clothing/accessory manufacturer that has been primarily producing clothing for Nike for the past 18. They are highly knowledgable and have been meeting with me regularly- offering consulting and prototyping to get this to where it needs to be. Being a local company, I am able to work closely and in person. Once funding has gone through, I will place the order for materials to ship immediately to the manufacturer. From there, production will begin and depending on the size of the order, should finish production within about a month. They will ship the wallets to our shipping/handling company for packaging and postage. I have already found bulk materials from a reliable source in the US, and will secure an order for as soon as the funding goes through. I do, however, have back up manufacturers and material factories ready to go in case something falls through with my first choices. I will be contracting with a local shipping/fulfillment company that my brother Nat and his wife Erin have worked with on 4 of his successfully funded Kickstarter projects. I've nailed down exact prices for shipping and handling to get the wallets and rewards into your pockets in a timely manner. The fulfillment company is also right in my area, which is helpful. As you can see, I have invested a lot of time and effort to ensure the companies I work with will bring you a product I'll be proud of. I estimate delivery should be around mid-May, assuming things go relatively smoothly. I will, of course, be keeping you all in the loop as we move forward!
WHAT YOUR SUPPORT WILL DO:
I need YOU, Kickstarter community, to share my vision and invest in my wonderful little product. Your support will cover the costs to place a bulk order of material, manufacture my first large order, cover shipping/handling to ensure I can get this into your hands as effectively as possible, and beyond that, allow for licensing and implementing a real business strategy for future growth. My dream is to see the Sushi Wallet more fully distributed and available to consumers in stores across the country.
Even if you aren't able to buy a Sushi Wallet today, PLEASE spread the word and share it on your social networks! If the right people like it and we prove we can deliver on the product, that could pave the way for a larger buyer in the future. So if you like it, post it, share it, or tweet it please!
Here's a link to an interview I did with DJ Grandpa's Crib (aired 12/9/13). Check it out! www.djgrandpa.com or a direct link to the episode: http://bedrockcommunications.blogspot.com/2013/12/dj-grandpas-crib-maiden-voyage.html
Here are some pictures of the samples I've made at home. Right now we're working with a manufacturer in hopes that they end up as close to the original as possible (except with laser-etched logos! Whaaaaa???). Stay tuned for product updates!
TEE SHIRT DESIGNS:
Risks and challenges
Time delays, manufacturing delays, shipment getting lost in the mail- there are a lot of hurdles to fulfillment. I will try to keep communication open to my backers so that they know what to expect along the way. I am committed to getting the Sushi Wallet into your hands with the same quality that I would want to see in stores. I have done a lot of leg work prior to the campaign and made the necessary connections to make that happen in a timely manner after the Kickstarter campaign concludes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
