About this project
Our capes aren't quite bulletproof or indestructible, but they do withstand the harshest, unimaginative, closed minds on earth. No, your personalized cape won't allow you to jump tall buildings nor will it give you night vision. But it will allow you to defeat boring days and capture the imagination inside you. And what's more powerful than that?
My family wants to start a comic/collectibles/Magic the Gathering type business. But more than anything I think the boys want to create the gathering spot they want. As you’d suspect, the economics aren’t great so we’re exploring alternative products to see if there’s a way to make their dream a reality. Our first idea is to sell exquisitely handcrafted and absolutely badass superhero capes (hand-made in the USA by us).
With a range of caped products, we’re hoping we can prove the viability of this niche product so each of us can live out our fantasies. After all, who hasn't wished they were a superhero? Admit it - you wish you could fly.
Christian, a 45 year old Marine Corps veteran, has collected comics since he was a child – which means we have stacks of pristine white boxes filled with comics in plastic sleeves hidden in a closet. As a direct result, our kids are obsessed with comics and card collecting as well. At ages 15, 14 and 8, a weekend Magic the Gathering tournament is fairly common in our house. In fact, custom dice and personalized Magic the Gathering score keepers are next on our list of products to test (so keep in touch).
My name is Susan and I'm the wife and mom. I'm an Entrepreneur in Residence at Georgetown University (which is why I'm the one posting this project). Christian (my husband and the kids' dad) is the "doer" of the group. He's incredible at the details and given he's the one that hand sews and crafts each piece, it's fair to say you're sure to love your cape because he makes what he'd want.
It takes about five seconds to realize how addictive and fun it is to walk around with a cape on. And yes, you'll have to fight the urge to run. Of course, it's equally cool to have your very own kickass cape hanging on your door or draped on the back of your office chair. Seriously. Try it and tell us we're wrong?
