Hello devoted cat ladies and feline fellas!
I'm Susan Faye, an artist and designer who lives in Oregon and loves to use paintbox colors to create fun things. Welcome to my second Kickstarter Project. You may remember me from my "Oh Rats!" project this past spring which was a lot of fun and launched my line of handcrafted Snazzy Rat Catnip Toys, which I sell in my Etsy shop, SusanFayePetProjects, and in two retail stores so far. Now I'm on to a brand new project, and would love to have you participate!
Here's the thing: Your cat called, and wants you to have a beautiful bouquet of flowers because you are so adored (You know it's true!). So over the past summer I began creating a new series of illustrations called "A Bouquet From The Cat". I'd now like to offer these images as notecards and giclee prints to brighten up your office, den, or child's room. My goal would be to have these delivered by Valentine's Day 2014. Pop the prints into a frame, and I think they would make great gifts for your sweetheart or your favorite veterinarian, pet sitter, or that crazy cat lady down the street.
I'm also offering personalized custom portraits of your very own Kitty Dearest, with his or her name at the bottom-- a great way to immortalize your current feline friend or to memorialize a dear departed kitty. And possibly best of all, I'm offering a "Bouquet of the Month" package. Each month for a whole year you or a loved one will receive a different custom "Bouquet From The Cat" notecard from your cat, with a personalized note from Kitty Dearest, plus a little surprise gift tucked inside (more details below).
THE GOAL: To raise enough money to print small runs of 16+ different notecards and giclee art prints that would include tabbies, tuxedos, ginger cats, Siamese, calicoes, Himalayan, white and black and gray cats. I currently have 16 [now 18!] designs ready for the printer; I hope to have more done by the time this project ends and if enough money is raised, I will add them as they are finished.
I've chosen a local printer, Pacific Frame & Gallery of McMinnville, Oregon, known for their consistently high quality work, recommended to me by many of our area artists. So by supporting me, you will also be supporting another small, independent business!
THE KITTIES AND THEIR BOUQUETS
Here are the 16 [now 18!] illustrations that are already completed and ready to print. If we go beyond the original financial goal during the pledge drive, I will be able to add more designs. Hope you like them! (copyright info and stock numbers will not appear on your notecards or prints)
Here's where you come in! Check out the pledge rewards over in the right-hand column. Your pledge will help pay for supplies, professional printing, project fees, shipping costs, plus compensation for my time as designer of the artwork. Whichever reward you select, you will be able to choose from 16 [now 18!] different kitty designs. Once the project is successfully funded, you will receive a questionnaire and will be able to make your selections and any special requests. Here is the run-down on each of the rewards:
NOTECARDS: Help keep snail mail alive! Options include a set of 2, 4, 6, or 12 notecards, your choice of designs, any combination. Each card is 5" x 7" with an image that is 3.5" x 5.5", professionally printed on matte paper, blank inside, and includes an envelope.
GICLEE ART PRINTS: You may choose from at least 16 [now 18!] different cat designs (I hope to add more choices before the project ends-- torties, for example!). Each print will be professionally printed on Epson acid-free matte paper with archival inks. Each image is 5" x 7" on 8" x 10" paper, suitable for several display options: you can pop it right into a 8x10 frame, or you may also use a standard 11x14 frame with a mat that has an opening for an 8x10 print, or use a "floating frame". Each print will be signed by me, right under the image.
PERSONALIZED CUSTOM PORTRAIT OF YOUR VERY OWN KITTY DEAREST: Send me a photo of your cat, then choose a color scheme and pick out your bouquet: sunflowers, roses, carnations, mixed bouquet, or tulips. I will start with one of my existing designs, make a black and white line print with the background filled in, add your cat's name at the bottom, then hand-color the kitty to look like yours and paint in the rest with high quality gouache/watercolor paints. Here's a portrait I created for Buttonwillow, and one in memory of a dear departed furry friend named Tamayo:
See how I create these portraits, step by step, in my Update #1.
These would look really cute in a grouping, so if you have more than one kitty, I have pledge options for multiple portraits. Sorry, but I can only include one cat in each personalized print as I am using my existing line drawings as the starting point. When the project ends, I will be sending a questionnaire to get all the details, and will request a photo or two.
BOUQUET OF THE MONTH CLUB: Starting in January, you (or a loved one of your choice) will receive a custom "Bouquet From The Cat" notecard in the snail mail each month for a year. The front of the card will feature artwork of a seasonal bouquet and a kitty that looks just like yours-- a different design each month that will be suitable for framing. Inside will be an amusing hand-written (er, paw-written) message to you (or a loved one) from Kitty Dearest. Also tucked inside will be a small gift, such as a bookmark or stickers. Sometime in December 2013, I will be sending a questionnaire to get all the details, such as recipient's name and address, cat's name, and description of the cat (or a photo).
So there you have it. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to send me a message. Thanks for supporting my creative endeavors... It means a lot to me!
Risks and challenges
The only challenge would be if I were to receive pledges for a gazillion personalized prints, in which case I would need to adjust my delivery dates. I will try keep you posted every step of the way as to when to expect your rewards.
Otherwise, I feel I have all of my bases covered: The first 16 designs are already finished and ready to print, I have my printer all lined up, and I've been delivering my art and handcrafted goodies to pet lovers around the world through my Etsy shop for the past 5 years, with a great track record. My son Chris will be doing most of my shipping for me-- he did a great job with the Snazzy Rats Kickstarter rewards, all delivered on time!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
