SURVIVOR TYPE is the story of Richard Pine, a man who wakes up alone on a small, deserted island in the middle of the Pacific with no food, few supplies, and no obvious means of escape. How did he get there and how far is he willing to go to survive?
THE FILM is a non-commerical authorized adaptation of the Stephen King short story, from his Skeleton Crew collection. Mr. King has generously allowed us to make this film under the bounds of his "Dollar Baby" policy, which you can learn more about right here. The non-commercial requirements of the policy disallow traditional funding as an option. But it's the perfect project for kickstarter!
AN UP-AND-COMING GROUP OF ATLANTA FILMMAKERS are behind this adaptation. Among the cast and crew are award winning screenwriters, novelists, composers, actors and directors, as well as many fresh and exciting talents. We are committed to making the best film that we possibly can with our limited budget.
THE MONEY. We've raised some money, mostly from personal financial input from the core team, but as we've moved through pre-production, we've discovered that we don't have quite enough to reach the quality level to which we are committed. Specifically, we want to shoot near an actual ocean, and being from Atlanta, we have some travel expenses that will be involved. Additionally, there are some practical and computer special effects we would like to achieve that will require additional funds. We will need to bring in experts in particular subject matters, and we'll have to pay those people for their services.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. We love you all. Seriously. We would demonstrate our love for you the best way we know how, but there are laws. We can't make this movie if we're in jail. So please, just accept our sincere gratitude. And the lovely rewards you see over to your right.
A NOTE ABOUT THE DVD: You might notice that our donation structure doesn't offer a copy of the movie until you reach the $200 level. Your next thought might very well be WTF? That's understandable. The problem is, our contract with Stephen King is very clear. This film cannot be a commercial endeavor, we cannot make money off of it, we cannot sell copies of the movie when it is finished. It's the nature of the "Dollar Baby" policy. And we respect that, because we respect Mr. King and want to honor our agreement with him. Also, we're very, very afraid of his army of lawyers. However, cast and crew can get a copy of the DVD (or Blu-Ray) for their personal viewing, as well as investors. We decide the $200 level was a high enough amount that we were giving the DVD to an investor and avoiding the perception of "selling" the DVD ahead of time. We mentioned the army of lawyers, right?
So, for investors who are willing to give a little more to help us in our effort to make the best film possible, you'll get a copy of the DVD. For patrons who can't give that much, we will do everything in our power to give you an opportunity to watch the final product; be it through film festivals near you, or showing it at the wrap party if you can attend, or some other method we haven't thought of yet that doesn't violate our contract. We appreciate every bit of help you are giving us, and we owe you that much.
SHIPPING for all the incentives is free inside the continental United States. Shipping to foreign countries will be at cost, and we will do our best to find the most economical shipping cost possible.
