The Slim Process - Letterpress

It has been an exciting weekend as we prepare for Tuesday of this week when we will load up a truck with all the labeled shipping envelopes and make the drive to our factory in Chicago to do the final quality checks. We have been flexible with address changes, especially in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, but we are boxing everything now and will need to rely on mail forwarding for any other address changes. Thanks for understanding!

While we have been busy finalizing production and troubleshooting how to scale this project, we have been waiting to release some of the fun things we have been working on such as documenting our process. The letterpress short film released with this update is a small clip with footage from our printer, Studio On Fire. In the upcoming week, we will release a series of short flims, each showing a critical step in the process to manufacture Slim.

@Allen we don't the the specifics as the factory is packing and shipping the Slims, but everything should be out in short order. We will continue to update all the backers as we get more information.

      Shouldn't be an issue @Sary.

@Brian, they will have sewn bottoms. That picture we posted showed the wallet in embroidery QC before having the bottom sewn. The last two photos of the latest backer update shows the completed wallet:

I'll have my Slim next week, right?! I can't wait to replace my fat wallet!

I will leave the country in a month, and I am hoping to receive mine before that!
      Great effort Supr =)
I really can't wait to get my hand on one!
      Thanks for the update.

so I saw the picture on tweeter of all the slims? are they hollow meaning no bottoms? Bc I thought they would have bottoms?

Thanks @AJ! We can't wait to start shipping Slim and letting everyone know about the next project. It will be exciting.

Looking great guys! I'm really impressed with your attention to detail. It's not every day a company comes along that cares about not only the product itself, but how slick their packaging looks as well. Not only am I looking forward to getting my hands on my Slim, but I'm excited to see what you guys cook up next.

Idiots! We're're doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing

@Johnny since the factory is there, the shipping will be very fast indeed!

@Brian we couldn't agree more. It is easy to equate simple with easy. One of the things we have learned is that it is extremely difficult to maintain obsessive care in mass quantities. There are many opportunities to compromise. We have a new respect for the products we love.

      @Luke we have you covered.

@Keith we were also blown away. The music was perfect for that press.

@Austin we love Studio On Fire. We can't wait to collaborate with them again.

@Sean, @Anthony, @Dane, @Alessandro thanks! We can't wait to start shipping them this week!

People always seem to think that because a product is simple that it is also simple to make. Usually, the opposite is true. If something is simple, there is often a great deal of complexity behind that simplicity. Especially when it comes to a product that has to be produced in mass quantities.
Patience is a virtue, people. I'd rather have a quality wallet later than a crappy one now.
Right now, I'm using a rubber band as my wallet. I'm excited for the upgrade in style and ease of use. Thanks for all the hard work you guys have put into this.

I live in Chicago if you'd care to hand deliver the first one... for your documentary that is!

Thanks for the update. Nice made video. Now it shouldn't take too long until we finally will have our Slims. Can't wait!

    19. João Varandas on

Wow, some really impatient people here... Not only is it simply not cool of you, but Kickstarter's not a store and you have no right to demand your money back since you didn't pay for a product, you made a donation, basically.

Update #18 ? This thing is a wallet, and not a complicated one at that! Please send it out this week, or give me my money back.

Thanks for the update. A while ago I tweeted you with what colour card I wanted with my wallet, but how do you link my twitter handle to my order?

@ Vitali Bokov I'm a little unsure why you felt the need to have what appears to be such a condescending comment. I think they all they were trying to show is they are respectful of the situation, and there could likely be shipping complications in that area right now. For the future maybe we could keep on topic.

That being said, thanks for a great update and staying current with your community. I really cant express how excited I'm for my new slim. Very happy you guys found success with kickstarter. Sometimes the world just needs more simple.

As a designer I'm so pumped you went with Studio On Fire. Thanks for the update!

So someones house was destroyed and he asked to ship to another address?

The machines in sync with the music just blew my mind. Good music choice!
