Our FULL COLOR, 60+ page comic book tells the story of Annabelle Avery. She's just like any other 17-year-old in 1880's London, except for one important fact: she owns a jetpack and isn’t afraid to use it!
When her adventurous inventor parents disappear when she is a baby, Annabelle Avery is raised by her posh Uncle Albert, Her Majesty's Minister of Technology. But Annabelle has danger in her blood, and can't resist trying to discover their true whereabouts!
To complicate matters, her parents left her an ornate key, which is said to open a mysterious Portal. The mad inventor said to be responsible for their disappearance, one Roderick McCallum, is after the Portal. Annabelle and McCallum have met before, and the violent encounter left McCallum disfigured, his body now augmented with clockwork machinery.
Annabelle now has it in her head that she has to get to the Portal before McCallum inevitably returns! Her Uncle won't like it, but nothing stops Annabelle Avery: Steampunk Girl!
Based on characters created in our 2012 webcomic, we're super excited to finally bring the Annabelle Avery world to print, but we can only do it with your help!
Annabelle Avery, Steampunk Girl: Volume 1 - Through the Steam Portal, is an all-new FULL-COLOR comic book, 60+ pages long. The script is locked, and work is well underway on the art. The European-influenced inking style Mike uses requires a lot of time, so our goal is to have the entire book delivered by February. We believe that it is this extremely detailed vintage art style and genre-bending twists that will set our book apart from other steampunk stories you may have read!
The Goal: Our goal of $8,000 will go to compensate artist Mike Gallagher, colorist Giuseppe Pica (Unmasked: The New Age Heroes, Holiday Wars, Flax), printing copies to sell and give as samples, covering miscellaneous technical and legal costs, and helping to fulfill the rewards. This goal is based on cost of labor, printing, reward fulfillment/shipping.
Reaching Above the Goal: See our stretch goals below!
The Sample Art & Pages
Combining the feel of classic woodcut engravings and the detailed linework of Art Adams and Moebius, international artist Mike Gallagher is pushing his style to the limit. We think the work speaks for itself! Click on the images for a full, detailed view!
Comic sample pages to come.
$9,000 - Making-of DVD!

$10,000 - Book/Paper Upgrade!
We'll upgrade the printing quality for everyone who receives the full graphic novel (signed or unsigned). Hopefully hardcover!
$13,000 - Convention Booth!
You'll help pave the way for Matt and Mike to sell copies of this book at an upcoming convention (convention location/date TBD)!
$17,000 - Webcomic Remastered!
Mike and Matt will revisit the original 48 page webcomic with all new art & colors as a "zero issue" one-shot, a proper companion to volume 1!
$25,000 - Volume 2 Begins!
This helps us get a head start on Volume 2 of the project!
Writer Matt Kelly (Emerald Star Presents #1, #2 for Emerald Star Comics & The Steampunk Leaf one-shot for Red Leaf Comics) met international comic book artist Mike Gallagher (Closed System for BullSpec, Komunista for Rosencrantz, Section 8 for Fugazi Comics) while working on content for the original Annabelle Avery webcomic.
Sharing similar sensibilities, they quickly decided that they could further develop the Steampunk Girl world into something that could have a much larger life than the webcomic. Matt and Mike began daily work on script and visual elements, honoring the steampunk aesthetic, while simultanteously turning it on its ear. They have set out to tell the ulimate steampunk epic!
Colors are being handled by Giuseppe Pica, who Matt first encountered while reading last year's Kickstarter hit Unmasked: The New Age Heroes. He is excited to be a part of this project!

Risks and challenges
Mike has been in the comic industry since the late 1980's, and Matt has professional experience in project management & printing. Since the art is well underway, the only risk involves having the book and other rewards printed and shipped. We're working with experienced companies, so we don't think this will be an issue. Of course should an unforeseen circumstance occur, the team will communicate it quickly to the backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
