WHY ARE WE MAKING THIS GAME?
We want to bring back that feeling we had when we played shooters on SNES. There's something about games these days that just can't provide that same feeling. So we're going back in time, doing some re-imagining, and we want everyone who thinks the way we do to be able to have that feeling again, on today's technology.

WHY DID WE CHOOSE KICKSTARTER?
There's something special about Kickstarter. It's able to bring together people that have something in common. We're coming to you because if you back our project, then we know you share our ideas, and want us to bring this game to you.
Kickstarter also allows us to get you involved in our project, such as being in the credits, getting sweet gear, and even being in the game yourself.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?   
With your help, the funding we receive will allow us to devote all the time to not only making this game, but making it as good as it can be. We, like most of you, have jobs and other aspects of our lives that greatly cut into development time. Without your help on Kickstarter, we can't actually determine when the game will be finished, or if it ever will be. You will be the reason that we will be able to meet our deadline of mid March, 2014.

Current Goals:

$7000 - Project Successfully Funded! -Super Sky Hero will be produced and delivered during the month of March, 2014.

A mysterious force has invaded and taken over Light City. Led by the Sky Hero, Rocket Rescue is an elite team of 5 pilots who watch over the skies. Since the invasion all of the Rocket Rescue team, along with the Sky Hero himself, have gone missing. All but one. Now the last member of the team must attempt to discover what happened to his comrades, while taking on the invasion single-handedly, and stop the impending doom!

Being developed for iOS devices, Super Sky Hero is primarily a side scrolling shoot 'em up style game similar to R-Type or Gradius, but it also includes elements of run and gun style games like Contra or Metal Slug. Take control of the last remaining member of the Rocket Rescue team, take down any enemies in your path, dodging enemy bullets and obstacles.

THE GAMEPLAY VIDEO

Main Features

Flying segments: 
Most of the game will be made of these segments. Use the directional pad to fly in 8 different directions, allowing you to dodge enemy bullets and other obstacles and also put yourself into position to destroy enemy ships with your blaster.

Running Segments:
There will be many situation where you will be prompted to jump out of your ship and proceed on foot to continue the level. While on foot you will need to jump over dangers and use your rifle to take out enemies.

Jumping From Your Ship:
Any time during a level you can choose to jump out of your ship. This can be useful in many scenarios; If you're ship has lost all of it's energy, it will begin to go down. At this time it would be smart for you to jump out of your ship and try to land in and commandeer one of the many enemy ships on the screen. If you're not careful though you will fall and lose a life.

There may also be times when you would want to rescue someone stranded on a floating platform. Jump out from the ship, snatch them up, and quickly jump back in before the platform takes you out of the screen.

Power Ups:
For Super Sky Hero we chose to handle the power ups a little differently. Normal Power ups, such as homing missiles and a laser, will be gained through a robot companion that follows you where ever you go (in and out of the ship), who can be unlocked during gameplay.

A Strong Story:
When it comes to games we've always liked the ones that gave you a good world and story to be in. We definitely want you to feel the same way when playing Super Sky Hero. The story is told through in-game message boxes with dialogue shared between characters.

iOS:  
Super Sky Hero is currently being developed for iOS. We chose this direction because we feel that the app market has given developers the ability to reinvent a lost art form for a community who fell in love with video games during the NES and SNES eras.

iOS Game Dock:
We're making Super Sky Hero compatible with Cascadia Games's iOS GameDock, which allows you to play compatible iOS games on your tv, and with controllers. This game is meant to feel old-school, and the GameDock enhances that feeling by bringing back the original way to play games.

Gameplay: 
We want to make sure that the balance of flying segments and run and gun segments is perfect, fun, and as intense as any shoot 'em up should be.

Pixel Art:
When Super Sky Hero began its development, the one the key elements that was important was that classic look and feel of the games we used to play. The look is where the pixel art comes into play. Every sprite in this game built with close attention to detail, one pixel at a time.

The Music:
We strongly feel that every game needs great music to go along with its gameplay. So like the game itself, we're going with a very old-school inspired soundtrack.

Risks and challenges

The biggest challenge will be completing by the deadline set. Which is mid March, 2014. A large portion of the game has been completed so far, but there is still several things to do. We have many hours of programming, level design, pixel art drawing, and music composing ahead of us.

There are numerous amounts of sprites and other artwork that will still need to be created. Each sprite can take hours, and animations on those sprites adds even more. This is our primary motivation for turning to you for help. This project funded means that we can drastically increase the production quality for all of the artwork put into it.

Another challenge is the music. The Soundtrack Composer, Jason, is hard at work pushing out these great nostalgia inducing audio tracks that will bring you back to what we believe to be the golden age of video games. But that takes time and getting the music JUST RIGHT is important for us.

If there are setbacks or delays of any kind we will be sure to keep everyone notified with updates. On the flip side, we will also update you with all major improvements or if somehow we're greatly ahead of schedule.
