An exhibit of art and conceptual architecture that focuses on Detroit as an urban situation of transformation -- opening in the D.

Your support will enable SUPERFRONT to make an urban intervention, an interdisciplinary exhibit, a viral think tank, and a flashmob performance - all in DETROIT this summer.  Support the travelling of DETROIT: A BROOKLYN CASE STUDY, an original interdisciplinary SUPERFRONT exhibit, opening in *Detroit* at Marygrove College July 14.

Through cartography, documentary video, architectural proposals, photography, painting and other media, the exhibit produces one thread of an evolving dialog between Detroit and other cities.  As a new initiative for the Detroit opening, SUPERFRONT will also present SUPERtube Your City: Detroit, a project of Detroiters using YouTube as means to create a viral think tank.

Approximately half of the exhibitors have lived and worked in Detroit, including a number of Detroit natives.  Includes works by: Chloë Bass, Dana Bell, Brent Birnbaum, Berenika Boberska, Brennan Buck, Lynn Cazabon, Sara Conde, Philip Dembinski, Jill Desimini, Sebastian Fischbeck, David Freeland, David Karle, Erin Kasimow, Amanda Matles, Blake Morris, Juan Alberto Negroni, Paper Tiger TV, Kaleena Quinn, Jon Stevens, Brett Van Aalsburg, Anusha Venkataraman, Margi Weir, Audra Wolowiec and others.  DETROIT: A BROOKLYN CASE STUDY will open in Detroit at Marygrove College on July 14, 2011, and remain on view through August 26.

Join SUPERFRONT as we partner with Detroit's LOVELAND project to bring the exhibit from Los Angeles to Detroit itself, opening a dialog of on-the-ground response to works created both by Detroit locals, and by those observing at a distance. SUPERFRONT has also inch-vested a 5" x 5" square from LOVELAND, where we will be constructing LIGHT UP!, the winning project selected by the exhibition's judging panel. The project will be unveiled in conjunction with the Detroit opening for the exhibit.

The Detroit exhibit will also feature two new, exciting projects. First we will be showing videos from SUPERtube Your City: Detroit, an open RFP for Detroiters to use YouTube as means to create a viral think tank.  The project aims to enable citizens of Detroit to directly commission the efforts of creative designers without a centralized planning process.  SUPERFRONT is launching this effort to use free web video resources as a means of fostering dialog between cities and producing collaboration around shared urban concerns.

Second, DETROIT: A BROOKLYN CASE STUDY artist Brent Birnbaum and curator Chloë Bass will present a live performance flashmob highlighting the impact of Dennis Rodman on Detroit. This performance will feature the Detroit Street Poet Society, a division of the Peace Project.

Your donation will go towards exhibition shipping and printing costs, the construction budget for the 5" x 5" built project, installation and mounting of the exhibition, gallery maintenance costs, curatorial expenses, and a public opening reception. Your support will keep this exhibition free and open to the public, fostering dialogue at all community levels.
