Pixels And Polygons is a self shot documentary about a studios rough journey to it's big game debut at the PAX East 2013 expo.
Pixels and Polygons: An Indie Game Developer Story at it's core, is a self shot documentary being produced to give insight into the life of a "starving artist", or in this case, an independent games developer as he journeys through life, culminating on a stage, with what could be a chance at becoming successful as a professional.
The documentary is shot over 4 months time, and follows artist Richard Cook, under the company AdaptivElite, as he trudges through the trials of becoming a sustainable professional, and the push to help create a successful game and company. The story culminates at the PAX East 2013 game expo in Boston, MA, where Richard and AdaptivElite debut their hard work on one of gaming's biggest stages, in what could be their one and only shot at success.
Made entirely of self shot footage, the documentary aims at a more personal take on the life of an indie developer, and uncovers the pains and struggles of everyday life, balancing 2 jobs, little money, and a role in the industry.
The edited version of the film will debut on YouTube and Vimeo online services for free in early June 2013, with an extended, uncut version available that includes bonus content and interviews for extra purchase. Part of the Kickstarter funds will allow me to finish this in a timely manner and promote it.
Pro Janitor Police
The game project focus of the documentary, Pro Janitor Police is a sidescroller/platformer game, slated for release in June 2013. The game will feature arcade style action and fast paced, physics based platforming with a quirky narrative and appeal. Most of the funding from the Kickstarter will go back to my team that has worked so hard to get this game to where it is, and help us to complete it and release it on time.
As an added initiative, GameStarr Arts will be an online collective of free educational material and tutorials focused on the games industry. The in progress project will focus on the creation of a website featuring 100% free educational content, including videos on learning programs, to videos about industry advice all for free and open to the public. We will also conduct live workshops with myself and several professionals in the industry at a premium to continue to fund the site. Part of the funding will go to starting up this initiative.

Risks and challenges
Main concerns can include how well received the documentary is, how well the game is received, and how much content can be implemented on the website at launch. For the documentary itself, being self shot, produced, and edited will require a lot of time to complete by myself. There are also the standard concerns with creating and maintaining a website and it's content. While I understand the ramifications of taking on this much on my own, the funding of this campaign will allow me to dedicate as much time as possible to it's completion and continuation.
Also, I am not alone, and that is probably the single biggest strength in creating something of such magnitude. While most of the work can be done by a single person, and will likely be done by myself, I also have a great team of people within AdaptivElite who are talented in multiple disciplines both professionally and experimentally, and are constantly helping me with securing issues that arise.
Being volunteers of our own for such time, and with such a little demand for money, we all want the same thing. We have accomplished great things already and look to accomplish more. The team is strong and behind me and all of our projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
