SUPAY - a film about a love against all odds

(Scroll down for German/Spanish) SUPAY is a short (23 min) and was filmed during six days in August 2016 on some of the most beautiful and iconic locations in Cuzco city and the surrounding Sacred Valley. But filming is just the first step.To finish the film we need funding for the post production. Color Grading, Sound Production, and Music Composition have to be completed in order to have a film that meets all the requirements to succeed at international film festivals. All cast and crew members worked on a provision contract, each of them being great talents and highly trained, committed professionals should be compensated for their skilled labor of love. We endeavor to contribute to the development of Cuzco's growing local film scene and want to offer each cast and crew member at least a minimum compensation for their effort.

Members of the Peruvian Women’s Rights Movement KACHKANIRAQMI advised and supported us in order to make the movie authentic. SUPAY is the first movie with an LGTB subject matter ever filmed in Cuzco, Peru! Society might be changing slowly. Days before we started filming, the NiUnaMenos demonstration in Lima and Cuzco took place, drawing thousands of marchers opposing violence against woman.  In July of this year was only the second time in Cusco’s history that there was a gay pride parade. Nevertheless, the LGTB community is still exposed to open and in most cases unpunished violence with Peru being one of the countries with the most violence against the LGTB community worldwide. So-called "corrective rape" in order to punish lesbian woman for their behavior are reported frequently, but still no laws exist to report this specific kind of discrimination and abuse. There is also no access to free and legal abortion for a woman survivor of rape. Despite the risk of addressing this topic we have received a lot of support from local sponsors, even from people who at first had a very negative opinion about it.

SUPAY tells the story of two lovers, without judgment, or pedantic scolding. It is our aim to open up hearts and minds to make living in Peru safer for the LGTB community and establish long-term cooperation, in order to support the local film community.

DEUTSCH
