A free-to-play, cult themed browser game. The Great Lord commandeth we make fun of farming games and we obey!
Sunshine Compound is a browser based farming game. The twist is, instead of playing as a happy farmer, friendly town mayor, or prince of a saccharin unicorn castle, you get to be the leader of your very own cult. A cult filled with crazy followers and even crazier shenanigans.
We loved the comedic elements in the games we grew up playing. Titles like Clay Fighters, Leisure Suit Larry, and The Curse of Monkey Island weren't just fun they were funny. Unfortunately, humor has become rare in the era of big budget, publisher supported titles.
We believe that crowd funding offers the perfect opportunity to revive the fun and funny games of the past. The cheesy subject matter of current farming games make them ripe for parody. With your help we can lift browser games out of the world of glitter and princesses and into the world of comedy.
But wait. Crowd funding is more than a way to make innovative and challenging games a reality. It also offers the perfect opportunity for open development. We want you, our audience, to be involved in the creation of Sunshine Compound. On our forums you will find a huge variety of polls where you can vote on everything from campaign rewards to game features. In a very real way, you get to decide what the game becomes.
Sunshine Compound is a social farming game at heart. You will be asked to create products, build buildings, level up, and interact with other players. Unfortunately, many farming games become stale, boring, and even annoying over time. Sunshine Compound is different because it's always fun. Unhinged celebrities, quests which drive a comedic storyline, crazy followers (to do your work for you), and sweet brutal murder all help to keep you entertained from start to finish.
We've also given the axe to some annoying features common to many farming games. For example, Sunshine Compound doesn't use energy to limit play or crop decay to punish inactivity. The end result is a social experience which is engaging, dynamic, and funny.
In Sunshine Compound you get to:
- Kidnap and brainwash compound visitors
- Grow a huge variety of both legal and illegal crops
- Make awesome products like crystal meth and alligators
- Build sub-par living accommodations
- Collect celebrity followers
- Force your minions to do your bidding
- Dispose of followers who fail to meet expectations
- Bribe the police
- Have friends
The scope of Sunshine Compound reveals the ambition of our team. An ambition we’ve backed by investing in ourselves before asking you to invest in us. Over the last year we've devoted our time and money to taking Sunshine Compound from pipe dream to playable demo. If you've had a chance to check out our website you've seen firsthand how far we’ve come. Now we’re asking for your help so we can go even farther.
Our base contribution goal is $20,000. At that funding level, we will launch Sunshine Compound as a live, stable, and fully functional game. For a more detailed budget breakdown please visit, the Budget post on our forums.
Donations are fantastic and always very much appreciated but they’re only a part of what we’re asking. We love open development and its ability to get fans involved on the ground floor. Your input can have a huge impact on Sunshine Compound even if you can't afford to donate. We’re counting on you to vote on the Open Voting and Contributor Voting boards of our forum and to post comments. We know that together we can create a truly amazing game.
The set contribution goal will allow us to finish the core game. However, we want to go far beyond the core game. With that in mind we're offering additional features and updated rewards at a variety of milestones.
Our milestones fall into three categories, contribution milestones, contributor milestones, and social milestones. Every milestone reached means additions which can include expanded content, a greater range of game mechanics, and even support for a wider range of platforms. Rewards will also improve as new milestones are met so don't be afraid to donate early. The more milestones we reach, the cooler Sunshine Compound will become so spread the word even if you can't donate yourself. To vote for your favorite features or for more milestone details check out the Milestones Post, Open Voting, and Contributor Voting boards on our forums.
A great Kickstarter campaign isn't complete without great rewards. We wanted our campaign and rewards to highlight one of the strengths of crowd funding, open development. Therefore, everyone who creates an account on our forums gets the right to vote. Donors, regardless of donation level, earn:
- Posting privileges on the donor section of our forums
- Their name (or approved handle) on the donor name list
- The right to vote a second time for their favorite update idea
The following list details the rewards available at each donation level. Higher donation tiers also earn rewards from previous tiers.
Keep scrolling beyond the list for more great content!
Remember, these are only the basic rewards. Milestones and the voting process will have a real impact on what you receive for your contribution. Everyone can vote for reward upgrades on the Open Voting board. If you’re already a contributor, you can also weigh in on the Contributor Voting board. No matter when you donate you will get the upgraded reward so don’t be afraid to contribute today. For more information on current rewards, please visit the Rewards Post on our forums.

For us, Sunshine Compound is more than a game. It's the realization of a dream. Sunshine Compound is our first step in building a software studio. By helping to fund this project you're supporting more than a great game. You're helping to fund every game, app, and innovation we ever make. You're helping us provide jobs for ourselves and our community. You're helping us build something that will grow and live longer than any of us. In short, you're helping to create a small business and that's actually a pretty cool thing.
Everything starts somewhere and for us it started with a great idea and some sweet concept art. Let the nostalgic journey commence!

Our Campaign is special for another reason. The screenshots and screen capture videos in other projects tend to be pre-rendered mockups. All of our screen shots and screen captures are from the live playable demo. We're proud of what we've accomplished and we think you'll love it too.
For more screen shots from the demo, check out the screenshots page on our website.
Historically, developers have used Flash to overcome limitations on the complexity of browser based applications. In exchange, Flash requires both extra system resources and the need for a plugin. However, the HTML5 feature, canvas, has allowed us to make a game every bit as complicated as current Flash games while reducing resource consumption by more than a third. For the user, this means better, faster running games and applications.
We have had to work hard to solve problems which would be trivial with Flash but the Sunshine Compound demo proves the scope of our success. By overcoming the obstacles we have put ourselves in position to become an industry leader in HTML5 development.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
All Kickstarter projects face risks. Sunshine Compound is no exception. The playable demo demonstrates that we have the ability and technology to achieve our goal with the current team. However, despite our best efforts, the whims of fate could place an unforeseeable and insurmountable obstacle at our feet.
Our experiences developing the playable demo have allowed us to make ever more accurate forecasts of development time. However, we have been working without pay for more than a year. The budget, even at higher funding goals, does not include living expenses for existing team members. We believe that, despite the risk, we have made the right choice. Given our success to date, I feel confident when I say, with your help, we can complete Sunshine Compound.
