Monitor your actual UV exposure in real time and get notified when it's time to get out of the sun or when to reapply your sunscreen
Über dieses Projekt
We've simplified staying safe in the sun so you don't have to worry about the details. Just bring your Shadow and you'll be set.
Just clip the Sunclipse Shadow to your shirt, hat, beach towel or child stroller. It will monitor your actual UV exposure in real-time and the Sunclipse App will notify you to apply your sunscreen, how much time you have left in the sun and when to get out of the sun.
We've crafted a beautifully simple, yet comprehensive app, that is easy to set up and puts all the important information in focus. The Sunclipse App seamlessly connects with the Sunclipse Shadow so you don't have to worry about the tech side of things, just some fun in the sun.
Our goal is to get a ton of great feedback early so we can keep making our apps even better. The current apps are in an alpha stage so we'll be incorporating a lot of your suggestions by the time you receive your Sunclipse Shadow!
You can download the Sunclipse App in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store right now!
Please make sure to send us any comments: feedback@sunclip.se

We made sure the Sunclipse Shadow looks great with any of your belongings, in any situation. We went through multiple design schemes, and multiple iterations of each of those design schemes, to create a device that met our strict criteria.
Not only does the Sunclipse Shadow look great, all of it's design features serve a role in making the device better. For example, the band slots into the device and covers the charging port, shielding if from dust and sand while keeping it dry.
We were a sponsor of Techweek Chicago 2016 and hosted a booth to demonstrate the Sunclipse Shadow and the Sunclipse App. We had thousands of people stop by our booth and the response we received was overwhelming positive! Thank you to all the amazing people we met!
A few years ago, I visited St. Martin for a 10-day vacation. Unfortunately, the first day on the beach was cloudy with a high of about 70 degrees. The wind didn't make it feel any warmer and I decided that I didn't need to apply any sunscreen.
It wasn't until I got back to the hotel and took a shower that I realized how big of a mistake that was. I saw myself in the mirror after the shower and I looked like Sebastian from The Little Mermaid. I tried everything I could think of to curb the impending pain. I applied an entire bottle of aloe, literally bathed in black tea and took a cold shower.
Nothing worked and I was literally shaking at dinner because I was so cold, even while wearing jeans and a jacket. The next day was spent sleeping and trying to recover. I would wake up, move to the couch and fall asleep again. Then wake up, move to the bed and fall asleep again.
Luckily, only one day was lost to recovery but we couldn't do anything in the direct sunlight for a couple more days and my skin was definitely damaged.
While visiting Canada for a few days, a few of us spent a day on the lake boating. I had a mental lapse where I completely forgot to apply sunscreen. A few hours after being on the boat, a couple people noticed that I was turning a little red.
Realizing my error, I quickly applied sunscreen but it was definitely too late. I had already gone past my maximum exposure for the day and was damaging my skin. There was nothing to tell me that I hadn't applied sunscreen until my skin started turning red.
Later that night, I couldn't move because the light covers were rubbing against my skin causing a lot of pain. Again, I couldn't be in the sun for the next few days and had to wear long sleeve shirts, long pants and a large hat just to be able to go outside.
Clearly, I wasn't too informed about how the UV index and UV exposure can impact you. I needed to learn more about it because I had already permanently damaged my skin twice and I was determined not to make the same mistake again.
I learned that it's difficult to accurately track your UV exposure and that UV values you find via weather apps are just estimates, with a perfectly clear sky. Being by sand, water or snow increases your exposure and can allow the UV to bounce around, even when using an umbrella for protection.
Sunclipse was created to help simplify the entire process of staying safe in the sun. We teach you about UV but also simplify the amount of information you need to keep track of in order to stay safe.

We've been working with prototypes to fine-tune how each individual component works together. Our goal is to make each aspect of the final product function in a way that exceeds expectations through many, many iterations of the design.
Our prototype video goes over the key features of the Sunclipse App and Shadow, including how they work together, how to setup the app and how the notifications work.
Here is a video of our prototype working outdoors and reading the UV index in real-time:
We've gone through multiple prototype of the hardware, changing a few of the components and materials to improve the user experience. Interacting with the prototype is crucial to making design adjustments so we used 3D printing and laser-cutting extensively to make sure we're creating a product that lives up to our strict expectations.
Risiken und Herausforderungen
Having successfully launched many products in the past, we know how to minimize any risks and challenges that can come up. Thorough preparation is extremely important and we've done most of the planning up front. Some of the main risks and challenges include:
MANUFACTURING
It's possible for every product-based Kickstarter to have issues with the manufacturing process. We've been through the manufacturing process before and have a reliable manufacturer prepared to produce the Sunclipse Shadow. We've used this manufacturer for previous projects and they have made sure to meet our quality and timeline requirements. That being said, there is always a possibility that there will be a delay. We will inform you immediately if this should happen and do everything we can to minimize the delay. An on-time delivery is extremely important for us and we'll make any effort we need to in order to make sure that goal is met.
QUALITY
As with everything we do, quality is of utmost importance to us. We strive to meet the strictest standards to make sure your experience with our products is as enjoyable as it should be. We have made sure to engineer the Sunclipse Shadow so it will exceed even your highest standards. We'll be performing rigorous quality control on all products before they are shipped out to you.
SHIPPING
International shipping can be tricky to say the least. We've partnered with a shipping company that we've used before. They have been excellent in terms of analyzing requirements on a country by country basis and making sure our products get delivered on time.
