Publishing Progress // Upcoming London book launch
I hope all is well. We are closing in on the final launch of Sudden Flowers, the book that you funded and that would never have existed without you. I can't explain how excited I am for this.
The London world launch of the book in September will be followed by the Ethiopian launch in early December and a launch in the United States sometime soon.
In the past month, there has been a lot of activity. First, I was in Addis Ababa and held a series of conversations with members of Sudden Flowers. I had the members review it and comment on it. I managed to include some of their feedback in the design of the book itself.
Then, our team came up with the crazy idea of including a hand-made envelope filled with letters and photographs on the back of the book. It was crazy because that meant I (along with the members of Sudden Flowers) had to make 1000 envelopes by hand in just one week. We ended up with 1200. They look amazing. All I can say is that those of you who will be receiving a book will be very happily surprised.
And finally, in Germany last month, at one of the top printers of photographic books in the world, we printed the pages of the book. It was an exhilarating and exhausting experience. The prints looked great and they are now drying and awaiting binding.
While in Addis Ababa, I arranged for an exhibition and book launch in coordination with the Addis Ababa Foto Fest and with the founder of local NGO Hope for Children to devise a campaign to promote the work in the book and the issues the book addresses; specifically, the impact of HIV/AIDS and the psychological well-being of young people.
I am so excited to share this book with you. It will only be a few more weeks!!
Thank you again for making this possible.
