Frequently Asked Questions
An encounter takes about 45 minutes to play. Some encounters are meant to be played in groups; we call these Encounter Strings. Encounter String are typically 1-3 encounters. The campaign contains approximately 20 Encounter Strings based on your decisions.
The Crawl Mode is much more flexible. In Crawl Mode, you can play just one Encounter String or as many as you can fit in a game night. There are also individual encounters for those who don't want a game to last longer than an hour.Last updated:
The Campaign is designed to be played with exactly 4 players, with an optional 5th person playing the antagonists. Crawl Mode can be played 1-4 players. If a player is willing to play the antagonists then you can have a 5th player.
While you can play with fewer than 4 players and still have a great time, there are moments in the story where players will have difficult decisions to make that will affect other characters. These moments of indecision and immersion might be lost if playing with fewer than the recommended players.
With that said, we will be including a solo campaign at the $35,000 and another at the $165,000 funding levels. We also have plans on releasing free mini campaigns online that will vary in player counts.Last updated:
Now that we have unlocked so much we can accurately predict how we intend on shipping what we have so far.
Promotional figures will obviously be a separate product we ship along side the base game.
The upgrade cards will be included in the base game.
If we can fit the grotesque effigy, and the Soul Butcher in the base game we will. however, this is dependent on getting the right price from our manufacturer. If we cannot get the cost of the base game down to where we want it, we will instead ship them as a separate product along side the base game.
The Summon's will be a separate product that is shipped along side the base game.
All future unlocks from here on out will also be separate products as well.Last updated:
Kickstarter exclusives? You said in previous campaigns that you weren't doing that. What's the deal?
We are recanting that position. Many people asked for more content, so we are delivering. The model is proven and economically allows us to get you more content on the Kickstarter without the promise, and burden, of reprinting content in the future. However, with that said, we will be regularly attending conventions around the states. You can always swing by one of our booths and purchase exclusives in person.Last updated:
It's very close to being done. It has been in development for over 2 years. The time it would take to deliver is entirely based upon getting any new assets made that we happen to unlock, finishing up some tile and equipment artwork, getting the rule book as perfect as possible, and shipping + manufacturing time. We will continue to do public play testing at our local game shops.Last updated:
We are still in the process of finding the best and cheapest way to manufacture our miniatures without compromising the quality and the detail. If there is any assembly required, it will be very minimal.Last updated:
In Middara, NPC's such as Zafir, and Shayliss are encountered throughout the story. These characters have tokens that represent them in the game.
Hitting these unlocks provides players with a figure instead of just tokens. In addition, the base game only provides the rules to play these characters in their intended roles. These unlocks will include the rules to play them in other roles outside of what we write for them in the campaign.
This means that Shayliss or Echo could be played as an adventurer in the Crawl Mode, or as an antagonist in someone's home made story!
Summons are similar. While the base game already has tokens for Eliphie and the spirit sword, it doesn't provide figures. Summons that are unlocked during the campaign provide players with a figure, and a card detailing their use as an antagonist or as a friendly esper (summon).
In addition, esper can sometimes be summoned simultaneously by antagonists and adventurers. Or perhaps the same two adventurers summon the same esper. In either case, additional figures would be nice to have. This is why we are providing an unlock that gives players an extra set of esper to summon.Last updated:
Can i play the game with only 1,2,3,4, or 5 players? If so, how many adventurers do we each have to play?
Yes. The Crawl Mode can be played with any of those numbers. Each player can play a single adventurer in this randomized dungeon crawl mode. If your playing with 5 players however, the 5th player must play the antagonists (bad guys).
The Story Mode can be played with any of those numbers as well. However, the Story Mode is written for exactly 4 adventurers at all times. This means that if only two people were playing, they would either each have to play 2 adventurers, or one person would have to play the antagonists, while the other played 4 adventurers.Last updated:
Both, the Story Mode and the Crawl Mode can be played competitively or cooperatively.Last updated:
We are working to try and make that happen. However, it's very cost prohibitive. Once we receive a quote from our distributors we will let everyone know if it's reasonable for use to promise.
However, we will be providing support for fan translations upon release.Last updated:
We have contacted and got quotes from multiple manufacturers, but until we have the leverage of having the money in hand, we don't want to commit to choosing any one manufacturer without haggling for the best price.
So in short, we don't know yet. But we have done plenty of research on the topic.Last updated:
Yup! You will even receive two sets of the unlocks!Last updated:
Yes, and yes.Last updated:
You may only purchase 1 set of the 4 character play mats per copy of the base game you purchase. This is due to us providing such a low cost on the mats.Last updated:
