Late October 26th Update: Wow! Funded in 29 hours and over 7X funded - thank you - this project forever belongs to its backers! =)

Will these games be available after this project?

Fulfillment of the Kickstarter rewards is my priority. And based on backer feedback, we will do a second printing. Please check subQuark.com in mid-November for information regarding pre-orders.

. . . but then the local game design meetup said "two games would be more interesting."

So along came Mint Tin Aliens and this 26 day Kickstarter project . . .

Are these worth getting? Or even worth backing?

Don't take my word on it, take a look at the Pair of Dice Paradise video review and other reviews below.

This project is to fund a pair of microgames that can be played almost anywhere - waiting for lunch, hanging out in the kitchen with friends, or even in a tent or on a plane.

Fast-to-learn, easy-to-play, and fun!

The funding's for printing the card decks for these games - not for art, not for design, not for labor of any kind, not for trips to the post office, not for anyone's coffee - just the cards to complete the games and get them into your hands.

These games are completely designed, illustrated, play tested, prototyped, edited, and copies mailed to reviewers. They're even listed at BoardGameGeek.

These aren't being mass distributed - they're truly from maker to player.

Mint Tin Pirates - Two pirate captains are hell-bent on getting rid of each other.

There's no easy fighting on the high seas with waves, wet gunpowder, and slippery hands.

Cannons, pistols, bombs, and knives don't always hit their targets.

Treasonous desertions from the opponent's ship and summoning lost pirates from Davy Jones' Locker sometimes work and sometimes fail.

And when all seems lost, the Pirate Ghost gives one last fighting chance!

Mint Tin Aliens - Go head-to-head in merit projects to see who's the best.

Zip through the skies leaving humans to wonder if you're real or just a weather balloon. Leave no doubt by making crop circles.

Move up the food chain and practice abductions on cows and then master human mind control!

Your merit projects place you in a great position for eventual Earth Domination!

But that's another game . . . and probably involves cheese. =D

I love Kickstarter - regular folks like you and me have the chance to create something new to share with others. I enjoy backing projects and finally decided to create one to share with you.

This pair of mint tin games is assembled at home, not produced offshore, because there's room for home businesses. And Kickstarter proves that every day.

Keeping this as homegrown as possible is key for this maker to player project. The cards are from California, dice from Indiana, game tokens from Florida, mint tins from New Jersey, and labels from Rhode Island. Even the plastic bags are from Ohio.

And it all comes together in Portsmouth, New Hampshire - on a dining room table!

But none of that happens without you.

Please keep reading and see if you'd like to back this project. =)

More reviews rolling in - get the Kickstarter updates and follow me on Twitter.

The games are complete in their design but there are a few things that would make nice mods.

$2,700 - Achieved in 29.5 hours - Additional cards for both games. From 52 to 64 for each game. This reduces reshuffles to keep games going strong.

$2,900 - Achieved in 30 hours - Go from aqueous coated 290 gsm card stock to plastic coated 310 gsm linen finish like the reviewer copies have. They're super slick and make these small cards easier to shuffle and more durable.

$10,000 - Reached 10/16! Will be done when cards arrive - Hire a student! That means more than 1,000 games and a local student to help assemble games would be great! Hmm, you'd be a job creator!

$72,000 - I've priced fully printed and embossed tins and that's seriously big bucks, but certainly a possibility (a quarter what Tiny Epic Kingdoms raised would certainly make this happen - but it would delay rewards or need to be sent out later on it's own).

Will these games be in stores?

Currently, there are no plans for normal distribution because the traditional retail model has too many mark-ups:
maker > distributor > store > you

Doing these as Maker Movement games from home:
maker > you

Will these be available online?

This Kickstarter funding is only for fulfilling rewards - getting these games into your hands.

However, I have an opportunity to help a local school fundraiser with a small run of these games. The profits would be donated to TOKIN (Toward Our Kids In Need) which helps low-income families get their kids into out-of-school activities like performing and creative arts.

Check subQuark.com after this project to see what's going on.

And thank you for looking at this project and sharing the word. =)

Risks and challenges

There are real risks and I've mitigated these as much as possible. Fulfilling the rewards is paramount because I'd like to create more Kickstarter game projects. There are 2 more solid games in the works - Mint Tin Villagers and Mint Tin Mini Apocalypse which would be in those really tiny tins! But this Kickstarter first, I'll be busy with mint tin labels!.

Game Component Risks -
I have all of the components, except the card decks, for 500 of each game plus I have multiple vendors lined up in case this Kickstarter goes nuts.

Game Manufacturing Risks -
These games are "maker movement" which simply means I'm making them at home. No offshore ordering or shipping logistics. All the components come from US suppliers and the games are easy for me to assemble.

Massive Huge Kickstarter Funding -
Yes, that's actually a risk - arguably a good risk but it could affect fulfillment of rewards.

If this becomes massively successful on the order of many times the funding level, then other vendors might be needed and I've already sourced those.
