Welcome to the Kickstarter Campaign of "Submissions Only"!! Thanks so much for supporting the show!
Co-creators Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger are currently in the planning stages of producing "Submissions Only: Season Two" after receiving a terrific response to Season One, which premiered on YouTube in the fall of 2010.
"Submissions Only" already exists, unlike many other Kickstarter projects. Season One's six episodes, which can be found at www.submissionsonly.com, were produced without any financial backing. A successful Kickstarter campaign will help the creators, cast and crew to produce a second season of this popular web series by providing much needed financial assistance.
The pieces are already in place: Kate and Andrew write, direct, shoot, star in and edit, while Neal Hunter Hyde has just come on board as the new line producer. Mike Croiter of Yellow Sound Lab (www.yellowsoundlab.com) does the sound editing in his recording studio, while Adam Wachter scores each episode. The main cast members are eager to get back to work, as are the production assistants.
Everyone involved has such a great time working on the show, but since no one is getting paid, it makes it difficult for people to make it a priority. If greater incentive is offered, "Submissions Only" will prosper. In addition, better equipment is needed to improve the production values of the show. Your donation will help immeasurably.
Please help us continue our work by donating what you can, and we promise to provide you with new (and improved) episodes!
"Submissions Only" is a web comedy which follows the characters Penny Reilly and Tim Trull, an actress and casting director respectively, whose friendship evolves against the backdrop of the absurd yet delightful world of auditioning for theater in New York City. The series was created, written and produced by New York actors Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger. Season One, comprised of six episodes, aired on Youtube between September 2010 and May 2011.
Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger became friends while working on "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman!" at the Dallas Theater Center in the summer of 2010. Andrew was already steeped in the world of web media, having created a few videos as well as having established a successful blog, http://www.thisisandrewsblog.com, and Kate was looking for a new creative opportunity.
Kate's husband, Jeff Croiter, noted the collaborative potential between the two friends and suggested they create a web series together. Within minutes of entertaining such a collaboration, Kate and Andrew hatched the idea for "Submissions Only." They started writing the pilot episode before they left Dallas, and filming began one month after they returned to New York City.
Barely. All expenses were incurred by Kate and Andrew. Money was spent on studio rentals, equipment and transportation. Several locations were donated, and no one was paid for their time. Season One happened because everyone volunteered their time and talent for free, which is truly astonishing. Humbled by the incredible willingness of the actors, sound editor, composers and production assistants to lend their time, Andrew and Kate would like to compensate their incredible cast and crew.
Full cast lists are available on the website, http://www.submissionsonly.com.
The main cast of Season One included Colin Hanlon, Kate Wetherhead, Stephen Bienskie, Lindsay Nicole Chambers, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Santino Fontana and Anne Nathan.
Some of the other immensely talented performers that have appeared on the show:
Kristin Chenoweth, Chita Rivera, Cady Huffman, Michael Rupert, Danny Burstein, Rebecca Luker, Rachel Dratch, Patrick Heusinger, Annaleigh Ashford, Ann Harada, Alan Campbell, Tyler Maynard and Steve Rosen.
Season One was produced without an actual budget. In order for the project to continue and grow, financial assistance is vital. Your donations will help pay the writers/executive producers, line producer, cameramen, sound editor, composers, actors, stylists -- all of whom donated their services FOR FREE throughout the seven months it took to shoot Season One.
In addition to providing compensation, your donation will help the creators to purchase better equpiment (camera, microphone, lights), which will vastly improve the production values of the episodes.
** IF EVERY FAN OF "SUBMISSIONS ONLY" DONATED $5, WE WOULD MEET OUR GOAL. **
There is a high probability that if you are reading this, you have watched "Submissions Only". [And if you have not, please check it out! You just might love it!]
Andrew and Kate are invested in keeping the show alive because the response to Season One has been overwhelmingly positive, not just from people from within the theater community, but from all over the country.
Hopefully the show helps you appreciate what it's like to work in the theater industry. Hopefully you're invested in the characters.
Hopefully you want to see more.
It is thrilling that people are willing to volunteer their talent, but the committment required to produce "Submissions Only" is a significant one.
Please help us value their time with a donation, and we will continue to provide you with quality entertainment.
