About this project
"Submissions Only" is a popular webseries which follows the friendship of Penny Reilly and Tim Trull, an actor and casting director respectively, as it evolves against the backdrop of the absurd world of auditioning for theater in NYC. Co-creators Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger, both actors in New York, have invested the last two years of their lives creating and producing two seasons of this online sitcom, and have had great success in building its audience and reputation. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2011, "Submissions Only: Season Two" took a huge leap forward in its production values, allowing for the purchase of a new camera, sound equipment, lights and the hiring of a coordinating producer. As Andrew and Kate look towards Season Three, they hope to raise enough money to expand their production team, improve the production values even more, and increase the wages of the cast and crew who work tirelessly to make their vision a reality. "Submissions Only" has developed an incredibly loyal and enthusiastic fan base, which expands daily. The fans want desperately for there to be a third season, as evidenced by regular tweets and facebook postings inquiring after more episodes.
Risks and challenges
"Submissions Only" has faced, and will continue to face, many challenges during its production. Writing, editing, scoring, scheduling, location scouting, and casting only begin the list of tasks that need to be accomplished in order for finished episodes to be uploaded to the internet. At any given time, these tasks can become compromised. Filming at a rehearsal studio may prove difficult when a loud Salsa class begins nextdoor, hampering our sound quality. One of our cast members might get a callback for a national commercial the day we're supposed to film his/her scene, forcing a last-minute re-write. Equipment breaks. Rain falls. Footage is lost. These are all things that have happened, and will most likely continue to happen as we move forward with Season Three. What makes these challenges bearable is the fact that our team is comprised of great problem-solvers who not only have the creativity and resourcefulness to work around difficult situations, but who also (and most importantly) have a sense of humor about them. Not only that, some of our best work has sprung from unexpected dilemmas. It's amazing how limitations often end up inspiring the best work. This positive attitude is what keeps us going. As soon as "Submissions Only" stops being fun, we know we're in trouble. We believe the magic of "S.O." is that this sense of fun comes through in the episodes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
