WorryBoy is an adventurous visual story of Jonah...
As soon as you enter the Oxford House you walk through the story; you can even stroll right into Jonah's own head! As you might have guessed: it is not a happy place in there...and now that he is trapped in his own head...will he ever get out?
The story is told through drawings, collages, dioramas, installations and animation. I love working with different media, and this project gave me the freedom to do so.
About 15 years ago I got the idea of WorryBoy and I have carried him in my head for all this time (the irony, I know!!) All this time I couldn't figure out how to present the story, until I started to give myself the freedom to use whatever medium I enjoying working with.
It soon became obvious that WorryBoy was a story to walk through and to be presented in a multi media way. I have never enjoyed working on a project as much as I am working on this one, it is pure joy!
I would like to invite you to come to the Oxford House in June to wander through the story yourself...
The funding will be used for the exhibition space, insurance and quite a few frames!
I hope to see you at the Oxford House!
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is time: it is quite a big story, inspiration is still flowing....and time is ticking away...although to be fair, I still have quite a few months!
This whole experience is unique to me, as every other project before this one has been as well. But what made the other projects work was the fact that I knew what my end result was and that was my focus. I have a very clear end result for this exhibition, so whatever happens happens, but I have no doubt that WorryBoy will come to life!
