I am Cherie. I sew a lot. I also write sewing patterns. The pattern part of my business has been supporting the product part of my business for about 4 years and I need to change that. I believe my products are great enough to support the expansion of my pattern business with 2 new lines, printed patterns and sewing notions.
Where the money goes
This is where you come in. The rewards include some of my most popular products. Your pledge will fund the first sustainable run of these products and a new line of sewing notions and printed patterns.
10% of each pledge goes to Kickstarter and Amazon for their services.
About 40% of your pledge will go toward fabrication and shipping of the rewards. I will be buying fabrics by the bolt. Each bolt of fabric will produce about 10 duffles or 25 tablet cases, so the more support for each product, the more variety of fabric choices there will be. My minimum funding goal will create 5 fabric choices for each product. I use only the most popular American designer’s fabrics. A portion of your pledge will go toward activating one or more local workrooms just like mine where women sew from my patterns to produce my fun products. This is what it will take to fulfill the rewards.
About 15% of your pledge will go toward the materials, set up and precision cutting of the new notions line. Precision cutting will speed our production process tremendously and open up a new product line that will be especially exciting to DIY brides who want to make 25 or more luggage tags at a time. The pre-cut sewing notions product line is only possible with a successful Kickstarter campaign. The pre-cut stabilizers to make 25 luggage tags are one of the backer rewards. And the precut pieces for the Kindle Fire cases are included in the rewards too for those who want to set themselves up to make and sell the cases.
Lastly, about 35% of the funding will go toward the design and printing of a new line of printed patterns. The luggage tags pattern pictured in the rewards is my first sample of that line. Kickstarter backers will be able to choose rewards from that new line as they roll out. My intention with these patterns is to sell them in quantity to quilt shops. Buying these printed patterns one at a time will only be available to backers. The production of these patterns will take up 35% of your pledge. I intend to have 6 patterns ready to print at the close of the project and another 20 ready in time for Quilt Market in Portland in Spring 2013.
A leap of faith
I have been dreaming of these new product lines for about a year. They are only possible with a successful Kickstarter campaign, so I hope you find something in the rewards you want to get for yourself or as a gift. Many thanks for your support. I am excited to get these projects rolling.

I plan to add a couple of rewards as I can. The first is these fingerless mitts. If you have already pledged and you would like to add on one of the new rewards, just add the new reward amount to your current pledge. I will be communicating with you before I send the rewards to make sure you are getting exactly what you want.
Risks and challenges
The only challenge I can anticipate for this project has to do with materials availablity. I have anticipated this and limited the number of rewards promised by a certain date. If any of the rewards sell out, I will add more with later delivery dates. I have accounted for all of the costs involved including materials, labor and shipping, so I know I will have the funds to deliver the backer's rewards.
I have made hundreds of each of these items myself and I know exactly what goes into them. If I receive amazing support for this project, I will add additional delivery dates and make more products available.
Yes, I have just added the Nook to the $46 level reward. At the successful conclusion of the campaign, you will receive an email with a survey that will ask for which tablet you have and what fabric you choose.
The way it works is you pledge once and you can add more $ to your original pledge to cover the amount of the other reward(s) you want. When the project has funded and you get the survey to make your choices, you can remind me what you want. You can also send me a message here on Kickstarter.
When you pledge on Kickstarter, your account is not charged until the successful conclusion of the campaign. In this case, that will be November 18th. On the 19th of November, you will receive an email survey that will walk you through choosing your reward. When you answer with your choice, I will email you the PDF pattern.
To get more than one of any of the rewards, simply pledge the amount of the value of the rewards added together. If you want 6 PDFs, pledge $30 and choose the $5 reward. If you want 2 pairs of bootsocks, pledge $44 and choose the boot socks reward. If you want a combination of things, just add the amounts together and choose one of them as your reward but pledging the total of the rewards you want. You will have opportunity to tell me exactly what you want in the survey at the end of the campaign. Or you can always send me a message any time to clarify.
Choose any one of my PDF format sewing patterns. (There are around 30 choices) This will be emailed to the address you provide as soon as the project is funded. Each pattern comes with cottage licensing, so you can stitch and sell.
Receive your choice of one pattern from the new line of printed StudioCherie sewing patterns in the mail. There will be a survey after the funding date for you to choose your pattern. Backers at this level will also be the only people who will be able to buy printed patterns one at a time as they launch. You will be added to a special notification list to see the new patterns as they are released and have the option to purchase them. I will not be selling these patterns one at a time to anyone except Kickstarter backers. The line is intended for distribution and sale in fabric shops. First class mail in the US is included.
One pair of Fingerless Mitts sewn from high quality, cozy wool and poly blend knit fabric. These black and white houndstooth knit mitts are exclusive to this Kickstarter project. These will ship in time for holiday gifting in the US. Scroll to the bottom of the project to see the photo of them.
A pair of luggage tags. Choose from at least 5 fabric options on the survey at the end of the campaign. These will be delivered in early Frebruary, in time for Valentines Day. Surprise your special someone with the gift of travel.
Road trip sized cosmetic bag to carry full sized bottles of shampoo, etc. These will be made from the same fabrics as the duffles. At least 5 fabric choices. You choose the fabric on the survey at the close of the campaign.
One of my popular cover stands for the original Kindle Fire, The Google Nexus 7, the new Kindle Fire HD, or the Nook. There will be a survey at the end of the project for you to choose your product and fabric. Priority mail in the US included.
From the new sewing notions line: one pack of pre-cut stabilzer pieces for you to make 25 luggage tags. This is great for brides wanting to make their own destination wedding favors or for quilt shop owners wanting to teach a class. One printed sewing pattern included. Sent via Priority Mail.
Limited to the first 12 backers. Have your duffle in time for the Holidays. The travel duffle. A gorgeous companion on your next road trip or flight. It is 20" log with 12" square ends. There are 2 outer pockets. This is all I will be able to make between the project funding date and the shipping deadline of December 18th. Fabric choices will be first come first serve. You will also be given the option to receive one of the sustainable production duffles at a later date if you prefer instead. Priority mail in the US included. (International Shipments will likely miss the holidays, but you will still be getting your duffle ASAP.)
Be part of the first run of sustainably made duffles. Choose from at least 5 different fabric options. These will probably ship in February. I will get them out sooner, if it is physically possible. Priority mail in the US included.
One of each of the StudioCherie Kickstarter products. A duffle and matching large cosmetic bag, a tablet case (you choose from Kindle Fire, Nook or Nexus 7,) bootsocks, fingerless mitts and a luggage tag. All from the first run of sustainably handmade by me and my local team. This reward level will also include any add on rewards with no additional pledge.
