Comrades in Battle is Capitan Studio’s new concept for American Civil War skirmishing. Not just a rule set but a card regulated system that captures the essence of small unit combat in the conflict that set brother against brother.
The rule set comes with 48 Unit cards, 48 Leader cards & 32 War cards - total 128 cards, all printed as playing card size & material. The normal price of the rule set and cards is planned to be £35 after the project finishes and is funded. Now, with the NCO pledge, you get the rules and cards plus the first miniatures to play - plus rewards, and stretch goals... we think that's well worth the money!!!!
Supported by a full range of superbly-sculpted 28 mm white metal figures, the rules and cards provide a novel experience in table-top gaming.
For those who regularly play table top wargames, the concept will provide them with a different experience that gives a true flavour of small actions involving just a few men up to a small squad.
For example: a Confederate cavalry raiding party arrive at a small but key railway junction where they tear up the lines and pile the wooden sleepers for burning. The main body move off to the next objective, while a dozen men, under the command of a Sergeant-major, remain behind to ensure the sleepers are beyond use. Suddenly, they hear the approach of footsteps which can only be the enemy. It’s too late to dash for freedom so they will have to fight.
Fortunately, the enemy is only a little stronger in numbers than them, so they are hopeful of a good outcome… This is just one scenario that the players’ imaginations might come up with. In the rulebook, there are others.

These stretch goals will be supplied free to all those who have pledged by the time the relevant goal is achieved.
Risks and challenges
Comrades in Battle is our first Studio Capitan project; we have a huge experience in wargaming, designing wargames rules, and in miniatures design, but now, with many manufacturers releasing new rules, customers could think that this is just another rules-with-miniatures project. However, this is a new challenge for wargamers, with a new wargames "engine" that mixes card regulation, old-style wargaming, historical accuracy and easy-to-play rules. We want to attract new gamers to historical wargaming.
Another challenge, in this era of plastic miniatures, is that we want to emphasise the appeal of metal figures - the traditional wargaming miniature - so, by making the most of the mix of uniforms from the ACW, we have designed about 150 different miniatures and poses - all in white metal - with the substantial weight and feel of those collectible soldiers we all loved in the past, and have combined them with modern rules design. We have tried to keep the price of the miniatures very close to their plastic equivalents to provide visual appeal coupled with stability on the games table.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
