Hello, my name is Niklas Swanberg. I'm the developer of Sylvio, a first person game for PC and mac. There's a description of the game further down on this page, but I thought I'd start out with a bit of background.

Two years ago I decided to start building Sylvio full time. I wanted to make a game that was like nothing I'd ever played, that had a strange open world, a surprising plot and an intense atmosphere.

I wanted to have a female in the lead role, but not the cliché adventurous type, but someone mellow, thoughtful and able-minded.

I wanted to make horror style audio and eerie musical scores.

And I wanted to place it all in a vast forest, covered in black soil and buried in a red, windy fog.

Now, two years later, I've managed to sow all those ingredients, and a whole lot more, into a game that is reaching its finishing stages. The next step is to get people to know that the game exists, and for a self financed indie developer that can be pretty tricky. So that's where this kickstarter comes in.

As the game is pretty big, and can be pretty time consuming to download, I thought I'd help magazines, game sites, reviewers and You Tubers on their way by sending them the game on a USB memory stick. So that's what I'll invest the money in, creating an intriguing promo package and sending it out across the world.The package will contain the game on a USB drive, 10 screenshots printed on polaroid paper, a giant sized poster and a letter.

And the great thing is, that promo package also makes a great gift to a backer like yourself! So, everybody wins!

Sylvio is a story-driven first person game in the horror genre. It will be released early 2015 for PC, Mac and Linux, and is currently on Steam Greenlight.

Juliette Waters is an audio recordist, specialized in recording the voices of ghosts. In search for a good recording, she has trespassed into an old family park called Saginaw. The park has been closed to the public since a deadly storm in 1971. Unaware to her, there is an old curse dwelling in the forests of Saginaw. A curse named Sylvio centuries ago by italian settlers. 

Juliette finds herself trapped in an old restaurant in the park, and strange things start to unfold. Who are the people in the park? Will be she be able to defend herself from Sylvio? And who keeps whispering on Juliette's recordings? 

Juliette has a couple of gadgets to her aid. 

The stereo microphone with oscillator. The microphone is for sound recording, and the oscillator for the frequencies outside the hearing spectrum. It will spark up differently depending on what kind of frequencies it picks up. 

The Reel Recorder. Complete with seven recording reels, it can be played forward / backward in fast, slow or normal speed. The spirit world isn't always following our laws of time and space, so sometimes hidden messages can be found when listening to the recording through various ways. 

The shotgun. It is powered by the air pressure from a regular spray can, and can be loaded with anything found in the world that fits in the barrel. For example small rocks, spuds, pieces of glass, screws, etc. 

There are 100+ inventories found throughout the world used only once or a couple of times. Juliette also finds a yellow car for transportation.

Risks and challenges

Sylvio is at the moment up for voting in Steam Greenlight, so there is no way to know when or if it will be available on Steam. If it is not greenlit by march 2015, it will be released on sylviogame.com instead.
