Hello! Today I'd like to show you Stroboskop's latest horror project. It's an ambitious game, finishing up at around 20-30 hours playtime.
Sylvio 2 is a single player, first-person, open world horror game, set in full daylight, where you get your missions from the dead as well as the living.
Juliette Waters, ghost recorder and EVP-specialist is back again to face the darkness that resides in Saginaw Family Park. The story takes off where the original Sylvio ended, the park has been ravished by a forest fire and heavy rainstorms, resulting in extensive flooding. Juliette travels the vast park by foot and with the help of a dinghy, solving environment puzzles, searching for spirit activity and exploring the lands.
The game consists of five distinct parts:
- Main Story - Juliette once again faces the darkness of Saginaw through environment puzzles and challenging objectives.
- Record Ghosts in vision and audio - analyze recordings to find hidden messages and objectives.
- Explore a vast, flooded, burnt, foggy world, by foot or by dinghy.
- Combat - Black Orbs and Human Forms might hurt you if they get too close. Keep your distance or force them to disappear.
- Lucid Dreaming - Find places to sleep and explore Juliette’s dreams and nightmares.
Sylvio 2 introduces a completely new and unique audio/video analyzing tool. The reel recorder has been replaced with a videocamera and a portable TV, with which you can analyze the recording in different speeds, and watch the footage in normal mode or in 360°.
The original Sylvio was released on Steam and Humble Store June 5th 2015. It was nominated for ”Best Original Game” at the 2015 TIGA Awards, alongside Sony’s ”Bloodborne”, Techland’s ”Dying Light” and The Chinese Room’s ”Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture”.
Rock Paper Shotgun’s Adam Smith called it ”The Best Horror Game Of The Year”, and IGN Sweden gave it 8/10.
It's a first-person horror game, based on exploration, recording and analyzing ghost recordings, solving environment puzzles and fighting Black Orbs and Human Forms. The game builds on tension and atmosphere, with little to no jump scares, and has been appraised by players and critics for creating a new space in an often repetitive first-person horror survival genre.
The Story of the original Sylvio.
Juliette Waters is an audio recordist, specialized in EVP, Electronic Voice Phenomena. She has recently bought an old recording equipment, so she decides to try it out in an old park, shut down since a landfall in 1971. After finding a way in, she accidentally falls through a skylight and finds herself in a hotel lounge, untouched since the seventies. While exploring the premises, she discovers a drained pool with a hospital bed. A door in the tiled wall leads into a basement, and she comes to realize she’s not alone in the park. She finds signs of someone called Bobby, interviews for a competition called ”Have you been to Honolulu?” and four glass containers with beds in them. By repairing an old car Juliette escapes the basement, and so begins her night in Saginaw Family Park. The Pesticide Factory, the pipes, the red mist, The Hensons Family Cult, the Siblings, the landfall. It is all connected in the end.

Try the gameplay! The prototype of Sylvio 2 is not a finished product, but a way for you to get a feel for the gameplay and mood.
Stroboskop is a horror game studio located in Stockholm, Sweden. Niklas Swanberg is the creative and technical director, working in close collaboration with a network of freelance 3D-artists, voice actors, illustrators, programmers, musicians and testers.
Stroboskop’s first game was the award-winning iOS game Stairs, developed in 2009. In 2012 Stroboskop left the mobile market to focus on PC games.
Sylvio 2 is built for the horror game enthusiast, and tries to push the boundaries of what has been done in horror games up till this date. I think it is important that a game trying to achieve something new is kept fully independent, and not being built for the purpose of making money. Hence, there is no publisher or investors, which maximizes the headroom in being able to test ideas and gameplay through-out the developing progress.
Also, I really enjoy communicating with the players, and this is a great way to get in touch early in the development process!
After Kickstarter fees has been drawn, 50 % will help me staying afloat as the lead developer. 50% will help covering the fees to the voice actors, illustrators and other freelancers. Once the first stretch goal has been reached, this is what happens:
Risks and challenges
Production time is always hard to estimate when building games. Even though the development schedule is well thought-through, unexpected situations will occur, and the production might have to adjust to new circumstances.
If the quality of the finished game is jeopardized in any way, the game will be delayed. In that case backers will be notified far ahead.
In the worst case scenario of the game being cancelled, all backers will be fully reimbursed their pledges.
