The Strings Attached project (www.stringsattached.info) is a St. Louis non profit that introduces under-served youth ages 5- 17 to guitar through study of American roots musics. American roots music is music that developed in the United States and includes styles such as bluegrass, blues, folk, country/western, gospel and jazz. The project provides private lessons, loaner guitars so youth can practice at home and awards guitars to youth who demonstrate good practice skills, attend lessons regularly and give back to the community through performance.
This would be the project's first CD recording of the youth involved in a professional studio. Students involved would get the opportunity to record "eternal songs" of the American cultural heritage such as "Arkansas Traveler" "Amazing Grace" "Goodnight Irene" "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" "Salty Dog Blues" "Crawdad Song" and many others, with the help of professional St. Louis backup musicians. Students have been practicing and performing these songs over the past year at recitals, farmers' markets and local community performances. This recording would provide documentation of their progress, an excellent educational opportunity for them to learn about the recording process, creating a project from start to completion and will help to provide revenue for Strings Attached through CD sales.
Kickstarter funds will be used for recording studio session time and payment of backup musicians, CD production costs and graphics.
