Mercy Rule - a coming-of-age comedy about four lifelong friends, an end-of-summer softball game, and so much more.
MERCY RULE: "Mercy Rule" is a feature-length, PG-13, comedy that revolves around an end-of-summer softball game pitting the perennial local losers against the town’s ringer-packed powerhouse. The game marks both an end and a beginning for four life-long friends about to go their separate ways after high school.
MERCY RULE'S STATUS: The screenplay and the shooting script are complete, all but two locations have been secured, the crew and cast are almost set, and the budget is nearly finalized. Filming is scheduled to begin on June 30, 2011, and wrap by July 23, 2011.
MERCY RULE'S NEEDS: While we'll have free access to two HD cameras at the time of filming, we need to purchase, at a minimum, more sophisticated editing software, a higher quality mic for one of the cameras, and a boom mic. The money we raise will also go to purchase, among other things, insurance for all locations, a use permit for the state beach where we plan to film a scene, permission to use the songs in the soundtrack, props (from a "Semper Fi" license plate for the Marine Corps recruiter character to bats, balls, gloves, and bases for the softball game), costumes (mostly softball uniforms), water for the entire cast and crew each day, and maybe a pizza party when we finish! All who are participating at this point have agreed to work for free, so long as I throw in a couple of slices of pizza.
MERCY RULE'S WEBSITE: The company I created to shoot the film has a website - www.strikezonefilms.webs.com - that contains additional information about the crew and cast, the film's locations, special challenges, and a wide variety of other information. Check it out!
MERCY RULE - POST FILMING: I'm going to try to screen it locally, enter it in several Northern California film festivals, and see where that takes us if those screenings open up other opportunities. This is my sixth screenplay and my first shot at producing. Rather than sitting around waiting for the phone to ring, I decided to shoot it myself. Why not, right? You only live once!
MERCY RULE SUPPORT: If you would like to help bring this project to life, please consider a pledge in any amount of $1 or more. Check out the various levels of support and the rewards for pledges of $10 or more. Thank you for your time and consideration. All of us at Strike Zone Films are truly grateful.
