What started it all was the love for classic cars, racing, watches and the influence of Kyle´s 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT. His passion for a piece of automotive history combined with his love for horology, set out to create a watch which reflects these interests hence Straton´s slogan “Style created through passion”.
The watch itself is a resemblance of the Veglia Borletti tachometer (Rev counter) of the Alfetta GT seen by the two-digit minute/second markers, also the needle-like wedge of the second hand. Just like the instruments in the car, the Vintage tan colour on the dial creates a retro feel and comes to life at night with green lume.
The stainless steel case is 44mm wide and 12mm thick and has a knurled bezel. The texture of the bezel serves no function, but it is the sort of mechanical detail that Kyle wanted to incorporate into the design. The case was completely designed by us for us and is not a generic case which can be found on Alibaba or some catalogue. Kyle has taken the time, invested money and effort to get the finish he was striving for.
The Vintage Driver Chrono is available in 5 colour variations Black, Blue, Orange, Grey and White. Each Backer of a watch will receive a plain colour NATO strap and two racing striped NATO straps inspired from the classic racing Era. Backers also have the option to purchase Genuine Leather Rally straps in Black, Grey or Orange to switch up the look of the watch. You also have a choice of having your watch either with or without a date window.
The dial features a Chronograph 60 minute timer (left), a 24 hour display (right), a small 60 seconds dial (Bottom) and a sweeping chronograph seconds hand (centre) that can be activated when needed.
The Vintage Driver Chrono´s "engine" is powered by a reliable and functional Mecha-Quartz movement made by Seiko.
What exactly is 'Mecha-Quartz'? - A movement developed by Seiko is a hybrid movement which combines the accuracy of a quartz watch (+/- 20 seconds average per month) with a Mechanical Chronograph (5 beat per second sweep chronograph hand and fly-back chronograph reset). Every person who has owned an ordinary watch box knows that they are useless and are often left locked away and forgotten about. For the Vintage Driver Chrono packaging we wanted create something which was purposefully made to store not only a watch but also the extra straps that come with each watch, furthermore we wanted the packaging to be durable and something which could be taken along on those road trips knowing that your watch is safely stored when not on your wrist. Finished off in Vintage brown we think it fits perfectly with the theme of the watch.
By backing this project today you will be helping us fund the first production run of the Vintage Driver Chrono and in exchange you will be receiving a watch of your choice at a reduced pre-production price. The Vintage Driver Chrono is expected to retail for around $370 so purchasing today not only ensures you get a watch at a discounted rate you are also ensuring that the watches go into production once the funding goal is reached.
The prototypes of the Vintage Driver have already produced and approved and now we are ready to go to production. All the images you see on this project page are of the prototypes and are representative of the final product. We will begin production once we have reached the project goal and we aim to deliver all watches through December/January, we have been conservative with our timeline as we would rather over estimate than under estimate.
Risks and challenges
We realize creating and delivering a product is a complicated process and sometimes with unexpected delays, however this is why we have taken the up most care and diligent preparation.
We have spent the past 8 months developing our supply chain for this specific watch and have a have a well-established relationship with reliable manufacturing partners.
We're going to keep our backers/buyers informed during the production process and this will be done with regular updates and sharing pictures as often as possible, for example machining and tooling of cases, dial preparation, final assembly, movements and packaging.
As we believe in the best customer service and experience as possible we guarantee no question will go unanswered more than 24 hours. If along the way we find that there is a setback in production, or there is a delay somewhere during process in the timeline, we will be transparent and keep all of our backers informed.
We hope for a bright future for Straton Watch Co. and believe not only in a quality product but also TOPNOTCH service.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
