Our short film STRAIN takes an honest look at how small actions and thoughts can spiral out of hand by exploring the themes of bullying, loyalty, betrayal and friendship.
Rather than lecturing teens/adults about bullying, our goal is to subtly push the anti-bullying message through a means of entertainment. Let's be honest, when teachers lectured us about consequences in health class most of us would let it go in one ear and right out the other. But when it came down to the "cool" people from TV/movies having something to say, we were all ears. The same type of attention span we gave celebrities were also given to "cool" mediums of entertainment.
For example, in health class we would much rather watch a well-produced film about the consequences of drugs than a poorly made educational video or take notes from our health teachers.
We want to take that same concept of what kids find "cool"and apply it to our anti-bullying project. We cast actors who teens would recognize as our lead characters. They will help breathe life into a script that was written inspired by actual events in a high school.
Our goal is to bring this film to audiences with the intent of sparking thoughtful conversations among each other and also trigger audiences to think twice about actions that could lead to bullying.
HERE'S A REVIEW ABOUT THE SCRIPT
"As a young teen, I was the victim of bullying and ‘STRAIN’ spoke to my heart. It so simply and eloquently shows how bullying can take shape in unexpected and life changing ways. When bullying comes from the people you never thought would hurt you--the effects are devastating. The essence of Strain is actions always speak louder than words, always have consequences and once the damage has been done--you can never take it back. These are lessons everyone from young to old need to learn and relearn throughout their lives."
-Lauren Brown (author and entertainment editor/writer at CosmoGIRL, US Weekly, Inside TV)
ABOUT OUR ANTI-BULLYING SHORT FILM
“With her broken home showing no signs of improvement, a shy high school girl turns to bullying as an outlet for her fear and pain, rising quickly to the top of the social status as she targets her popular best friend.”
STRAIN is a short narrative film by Yin Chang (Gossip Girl, PROM, The Bling Ring) starring Francia Raisa (The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Fired Up!, In Plain Sight), Cali Fredrichs (The Social Network, House, GREEK) Michelle Page (CSI:NY, Saving Grace, Ghost Whisperer, The Mentalist), and Micky Shiloah (The Party is Over alongside Kathy Baker). It is being produced by Yin Chang, Deb Havener, Jason Berrent and Chadwick Armstrong.
Now here’s the pretty unique and cool part-- it is a silent short film driven by powerful music, storyline, and visuals.

The narrative takes an honest look at how small actions and thoughts can spiral out of hand showing us how easy it is to slip down a path of betrayal and bullying – and the consequences we must live with when we do.
Set to film June 4th – 8th in Los Angeles by a group of passionate, talented, hard-working and motivated individuals who have all been affected by bullying at some point in their lives.
We chose to be a part of the anti-bullying awareness the best way we know how— writing about it and bringing it to life to share with you.
We need YOUR help as our backers to support our vision. Please help us make this possible!
ARE WE FUNDRAISING?
The script was written in 2011 and has since gone through several revisions. Now that the project has grown and more people are coming together to work on this project, it’s time to go in full swing and start filming!
Every single penny we raise will go directly towards the expenses of the film, including the cost of feeding our talented actors and crew, camera equipment (REALLY expensive!), production design, secure locations, production equipment, etc. **Kickstarter and Amazon do take a percentage out of our raised amount for giving us a platform to raise money.
Most of us are doing this without pay because we believe in the project. Each one of us have our own stories to tell and it is our dream to share this story with you.
WHY SHOULD YOU HELP US?
If you have ever been bullied, or been the bully, or been effected by some form of bullying like the rest of us, please show your support for this anti-bullying short film.
If you are someone who enjoys watching films, please help us make this passion project come to life. The intent of this short film is to show the consequences of bullying and make teens think twice about their actions before making life-altering decisions.
Trust us, *ANY* amount is helpful. Even if you think $5 doesn’t make a difference for us, it will. If all of our family, friends, and supporters come together and each donate a minimum of $5, we will definitely meet our goal amount!!
WHAT WILL YOU GET IN RETURN?
Tons of LOVE and GRATITUDE! Choose the amount you’d like to donate and the gift you’d like to receive. Once funding is completed, we will give you your rewards as promised.
WILL YOUR PLEDGE AMOUNT BE SHOWN PUBLICLY?
No, only you and the creator of this Kickstarter campaign will see it.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON'T RAISE $12,000 BY MAY 18TH?
We don't receive any of the money and your credit card will not be charged. That’s right, even if we’re a penny short of our goal, we won’t get the money. That’s why we need your help!
IF WE RAISE ALL OF OUR TARGET AMOUNT BEFORE THE DEADLINE, WE GET TO KEEP THE WHOLE AMOUNT.
Our goal amount is just a portion of our total budget to be able to shoot the film, anything we raise over that will go directly towards post-production on the film—the music, color correction, sound mixing and making the short film even BETTER all thanks to YOU.
ARE YOU 100% SUPPORTIVE BUT ARE UNABLE TO BACK THE PROJECT AT THIS MOMENT? AND YOU STILL WANT TO HELP SOMEHOW?
Please help us personally email your friends and family to encourage them to donate, or just to let them know about the project. You can spread the word by linking to our Kickstarter campaign on YOUR Facebook profile and YOUR Twitter feed. The success of the fundraising relies on word-of-mouth.
CAN I GO BACK AND INCREASE MY PLEDGE AMOUNT AFTER I ALREADY PLEDGED?
You sure can!! Thank you for being so generous! As long as it’s by May 18th, you can come right back and increase your pledge amount. In order to do that, you sign in and go to our campaign page, then click the blue colored “Manage Your Donation” button. There you can enter a new amount or choose a different reward!
