Frequently Asked Questions
I've had a few questions about shipping costs to Canada, so let me explain how I came to the stated fees:
A fulfillment warehouse will be doing most of the shipping for this project (since there will be thousands of books; I will only be shipping any books that will be signed), so there are materials and handling fees for their services (about $2.20 to ship 1 book internationally). The international shipping cost for 1 book is $22.50: the book will be hardcover, around 2 pounds, and will be shrink-wrapped (in case it gets wet) and then it will also be placed in a sturdy box (not an envelope, which could be easily damaged en route to other countries). This total amount is $24.70, and then to be fair, I have deducted the same amount of shipping/handling for 1 book being shipped to a U.S. address ($5.04), which brings the adjusted amount to $19.66, which I rounded up to $20 to keep bookkeeping easy.
If you do not want to pay this shipping fee, you are welcome to purchase the book later when it becomes available online (October-November), when it is planned to retail for $32.99 plus tax (if applicable) and shipping/handling.
I hope this helps. International shipping is one of the most difficult aspects of budgeting and planning an online fundraiser, and because of this, many creators forego it altogether. But I wanted to include as many people as possible, so tried to strike a balance that felt reasonable for all parties. (I am making no profit on the shipping costs derived from this fundraiser.)
P.S. If you opt for more than one book, the shipping fees come down (since more than one book can be shipped in the same box). So while the fee for one book is $20, the fee for two books is $35 ($17.50 per book), for four books it is $55 ($13.75 per book), and for eight books it is $75 ($9.38 per book). Just an FYI, the Healthy Snacking e-book and the Straight Up Food Cookbook PDFs will be formatted so they are not printable or copy-able (as in "copy and paste"). This provides a barrier to people who wish to plagiarize my original work for their own monetary gain (which is rampant with cookbooks). These PDFs are meant to be read on a PC, laptop, or iPad. If you would like a hard copy of the book, you will need to pledge at the $30 level or higher.Last updated:
Some people have asked about providing their mailing address, and why they were not asked for them. You will only be asked for your mailing details if and when the campaign ends and meets its goal. Thanks!Last updated:
I've received a handful of questions asking if my recipes contain a lot of certain ingredients that some people try to avoid in their diet, such as higher-fat plant foods (nuts, seeds, avocado, etc.) or uncommon or exotic ingredients. In a nutshell, the high-fat plant-foods are usually optional and can be worked around (i.e., just leave them out, or use something else, like white beans in the Caesar salad dressing instead of cashews). I do not use uncommon ingredients, as I try to keep things simple and practical. But if you want to get a better idea of my style of cooking and recipes, take a look at my recipe blog at http://www.straightupfood.com. If you still have questions, please contact me. Thank you! ;) CathyLast updated:
Your credit card will be charged at the end of the campaign (this one ends 8/19/16) and only if the campaign is successful. Kickstarter will send you an email to let you know when it has been charged.Last updated:
