About this project
After a short mountain bike ride from snow covered roads and trails in late Winter 2010, I noticed my clip-in pedal which has a clip screwed to the bottom base of the mountain bike shoes, and a spring mechanism on my pedal were starting to freeze up and clipping in was getting dicey. This problem is similar to the earlier types of snowboard step-in bindings. The internal springs would freeze up or jam from the cold temperatures and snow.
Remembering the old step-in bindings from earlier years of snowboarding was not a good experience. There was lack of performance from the bindings. Manufacturers ditched any advancement. The lack of advancement to improve feel and performance led to its demise, to never come back.
Being active in alpine sports, I always loved switching over to my snowboards from skis, but it was always daunting to have to bend down or sit on the snow to secure our binding straps. I always wondered why there wasn't something similar to my clip-on mountain bike pedals and ones that didn't freeze up or jam.
Being completely locked onto your board is essential for any smooth run, but I knew that there had to be another option to experience getting on and off your snowboard while experiencing stability, feedback and safety throughout your ride.
The Transition. Envision a metal type fastener that functions like a metal velcro. Several years passed, with numerous metal casting prototypes produced, and on December 2012 a patent was issued for the (EO)2® fastener. The timing was right for 2013 collaborating with my older brother developing and testing the earlier metal casts and making modifications for a low profile, and very stable prototype for snowboarding.

Feedback From a Major Trade Show
Overwhelmingly, snowboarders, wakeboarders, and alpine sports enthusiast--all visioned how the STR8TLINE (EO)2® system could emerge as a viable step-in binding that they could use.
The STR8TLINE (EO)2® snowboard bindings+boots is a true "Step-In" snowboard binding system, which requires no straps or buckles, while offering an added feel from your snowboard.
The STR8TLINE Team
Our goal on Kickstarter is to get new alternative options into the hands (feet) of snowboarders like you as soon as possible. We want you to be involved, whether to provide feedback on the experience, or to help us develop future adaptations that will blow the snowboarding community open to wider audiences.
And we’ll be hard at work too, delivering updates and new functionality on a regular basis to add more performance and capabilities to you. With your support on this project, snowboarders will have a representation of new technology and manufacturing.
Funding and Support
Short Answer: 1.) final CAD renderings; 2.) re-tooling costs; 3.) materials from supplier; 4.) labor + assembly; 5.) legal; 6.) fullfilment.
Your help will fund the first run Phase I of production for the STR8TLINE (EO)2® boots + bindings. Our focus is on the 1st Gen Launch and completion. Reaching our goal of $85,000 will cover the extensive update for re-tooling costs on producing the (EO)2 parts and hardware, ordering materials, renting a facility, and labor costs for assembly plus fullfilment.
We're already prepared for the Phase II - version 2 adjustable bindings + boots, and hybrid version. Over achievement is always great, so we are prepared to use any overage on our goal for Phase II, which will be blended into the early production run. Phase II would require added re-tooling and manufacturing additions.
Many Cool Reward Choices
We are offering several reward options. Your support will help us complete this project for the snowboarding community. Take a look!
Risks and challenges
We have worked very hard to de-risk as much as we can before this campaign started. We already signed licensing agreements, secured suppliers, partnered with a manufacturer, and have gone through design for manufacturing. As a result, we are near ready to begin manufacturing the first run of STR8TLINE (EO)2® bindings.
However, there is always the risk of unforeseen challenges when manufacturing physical products as we go through the first run process, setting up the production line for tooling and casting, and logistics of receiving supplies. If an unexpected issue arises, we are resolved to doing everything we can to get as close to our delivery schedule as possible.
We appreciate your support, and we are excited to have you join us in our mission to give the entire snowboarding community new technology that they can have as a choice!
