When Rosellen receives a book of fairy tales as a birthday gift, she decides to use its stories as a guide for her own life. From enchanted frogs to lost slippers to hundred-year naps, Rosellen wants to be a really-truly Princess just like the ones she reads about in her book.
Follow Rosellen through five fairy-tale inspired escapades as she discovers that real life problems can't always be solved in story-book style--even if you are a Princess!
A Really-Truly Princess is written for 8-12 year olds, with enough illustrations to be a good read-aloud for younger Princesses.
This book began when I wondered what might happen if an imaginative little girl tried to live up to the standards set by Fairy-tale Princesses--without the benefit of a convenient Fairy Godmother or fantastically good luck!
Add a brother or two--because even though I'm not a Princess, I know about brothers--and a garden or two--because even though I don't live in a palace, I know about gardens--and you have Rosellen's world.
I wrote the first story about Rosellen and her fairy-tale book five years ago, but it always felt unfinished; I knew there was more to her story! So this summer I pulled everything back out, dusted it off, and planned the final story arc and illustrations.
I want to make a book that not only reads great, but also looks great! Here are the details:
- 5.83" x 8.25" (A5)
- about 120 pages long
- over 80 pen-and-ink illustrations
- softcover or hardcover (casewrapped)
The illustrations are pen-and-ink line drawings, or silhouettes in the style of some of my favorite Golden Age fairy-tale illustrators.
Stop by my website to see more of my illustration work, and don't forget to download the first chapter of A Really-Truly Princess for FREE!
With the help of my wonderful backers, we've met our goal in under 24 hours--now I'm super excited to start adding a few stretch goals!
(locked) 100 backers = full-color bookmark with every book!
I've pulled 50 illustrations from the book and turned them into a companion coloring book! If you'd like to get a coloring book with your reward, just add $6 to your pledge amount.
- Coloring book size is 8.25"x8.25"
- 60# white paper (probably about the weight you use in your printer)
- 50 illustrations
- Printed on only one side to minimize bleed-through
How does Kickstarter Work?
When you pledge money by choosing one of the reward levels, you are basically pre-buying the book and helping me cover the initial printing costs--it’s a good deal for both of us! (Your card is not charged until the campaign has finished successfully. If the funding goal is not reached, you will not be charged.)
The money from this campaign will be used to cover the expenses of Kickstarter fees, printing of books and other rewards, and shipping costs.
Spread the word!
Do you know any Princesses who might enjoy this book? Let them know! (I appreciate every one of your shares SO very much!)
You can connect with me on social media so you don't miss out on future projects--I would love to see you there!
Risks and challenges
This is my second Kickstarter. My first, a Jane Austen coloring book, was delivered on schedule, and I will make every effort to deliver this one on time, as well! The final illustrations and formatting are almost complete, so I should be ready to send everything off to the printer by the end of the month.
While I hope to have these shipped in time for holiday gift-giving, shipping/printing delays are hard to predict, so I will not promise to deliver before the new year.
However, if shipping is delayed beyond the holidays, you'll have the option to print a special card to let your gift recipient know that a book is really-truly coming for them soon!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
