StoryPress believes that everyone has an important story to tell, and our app lets you easily save these stories to share with future generations. We launched the 1st generation of our product in December 2012 and have already had an overwhelming response, with thousands of downloads from around the world.
What is StoryPress
Stories are not traditionally thought of as something that can be easily saved and shared. In fact, most are never written down, and are too often forgotten. But they are stories that define us, make us who we are, and are such better representations of our lives than photos or mundane historical facts.
Use the free StoryPress app to capture your own personal history, or tell a loved one about it – we designed it to be unbelievably easy to use, even for seniors.
There is an authenticity in someone’s own voice that transcends time and carries more weight than any other element, and StoryPress is here to capture these moments – your favorite memories, your successes, and your funny stories – and give you the ability to share them with your loved ones.
Stories are captured through a simple and beautifully designed software application. The user can customize a cover, and then either freely talk or choose a topic and be interviewed by our program. (We know, it’s pretty amazing.) Then the software takes all the audio recordings and automatically turns the story into an audio book permanently saved on our cloud.
Stories can be set as private, where only people given the link can listen, or stories can be set to public to share with the greater StoryPress community. Most importantly, we just want you to take the time to download our free app and get these stories preserved… it’s important!

CDs and DVDs
We are excited to offer your favorite family stories to you on a CD or DVD. The CD will play the audio in any CD player and can be cherished and saved. The DVDs will be professionally edited with transitions and background music to really make your story come alive.
Order the DVD story and you will receive a true multi-media viewing experience.

We need your help to release StoryPress 2.0.
Users can already customize their story with a single photo, but we would love to be able to add photos and music to enhance the experience of listening to your finished book.
With the money we raise on Kickstarter, we could complete functionality to the app to beautifully illustrate stories with pictures and music. We’re already capturing your incredible memories and insight, but we want to add that visual element to really take your story to the next level.
And once we get this collection built from 2.0, we can do amazing things, like developing a Pinterest-style public gallery you can choose to be a part of, tagging people, topics, and time periods. But, first things first… we need pictures!
Mike Davis, Founder and CEO
“I created the app for my grandma. When she got an iPad last year, she called me and asked if it could record her voice telling stories. I said it could, but wanted to know why. She said, “Well, I’m 84 years old, and I have all these stories I want to record, so you kids can have them forever.”
I did a little bit of research and found no shortage of voice recorder apps, but they were all cold and dark, and not really meant for family history… they weren’t anything my grandmother would like. I have always been a hobbyist entrepreneur and I’ve built apps before, so I decided to make something that interviews her. She didn’t have to worry where to start, she could just scroll through interview packets and answer the questions she was asked. Then all of her recordings were saved, and she could listen to it as an audio book, which is saved forever on a URL and shared with our family.
Our interface is meant for family history, and you don’t have to worry about where to begin. One of the most innovative things is the sharing component. When my grandma was done, I didn’t want her worrying about e-mail or burning a disc. She just hit “upload” – it’s that simple! Instantly, her story was popped on our cloud, and she could share the permanent URL with any friends or loved ones she chose.”
Typical Interview Questions
Can you name all eight of your great-grandparents? Don’t worry, most of us can’t. Your loved ones’ stories are too precious to lose, and we make it so easy to preserve them.
Choose to just freely speak, or be guided through our topical interview packets. Here’s a tiny selection of questions, to give you a sample of the memories we’re pushing to save:
From Growing Up packet: What was your first job? How much did you get paid?
From our Personal Reflections packet: What are your biggest accomplishments in life? What have you done that you're most proud of?
From Personal Reflections packet: Do you have "words of wisdom" for the younger generation.
From Wedding packet: How did you two meet?
It will take us about 3 months to complete development and roll StoryPress out to all the major platforms. By August you can be snuggled on your sofa with StoryPress 2.0, sharing your memories and uploading all of your favorite pictures… not to mention that by September, you’ll receive all of your amazing perks for donating… hint, hint.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. Is StoryPress available on Android?
A. We are completing testing on an Android tablet version and will be releasing it for Android tablets, Kindles and Nooks during the month of April.
Q. Is StoryPress available on smartphones?
A. At the moment we are available on tablets only, but if we achieve our fund raising goals on Kickstarter, we'll begin rolling out smartphone versions this summer for both iOS and Android.
Q. Can I use StoryPress on my computer?
A. Right now you can use our website to listen and share your stories but not to create new content. A browser variation of StoryPress is scheduled to be completed with the funds we raise on Kickstarter.
Q. What is the difference between a CD, Basic DVD and a Professional DVD?
A. A CD is meant for archival purposes and will include all the sound and pictures of your story. It can be listened to on CD players as well. The DVD movies are where we take all the provided content and turn it into a movie that can be watched. The pictures, audio and sound will be synced and can be watched on any DVD player. The Professional DVD option includes a dedicated video producer to make your story that much more polished and can consult 1-1 for extra features if necessary.

Risks and challenges
What keeps us up at night is integrating all these awesome features, yet still keeping our application easy enough that someone who’s never touched a computer can use it. We are very much in tune with our Baby Boomer / senior citizen market, and ensuring our app is fun, easy and, most importantly, intuitive for them is paramount.
We accomplished this with our 1.0 version and I’m confident we can stay true to our simplicity in design mantra even as we add more amazing features.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
