Created by the industry, for the industry, the Stone mixes modern technology with classic design. A notebook that’s durable enough to meet the demands of the toughest kitchen but doesn't compromise on style. From its waterproof stone paper through to its lay-flat design, every feature has been tweaked to maximise practicality, creativity and sustainability.
The team behind Stone have worked collectively in dozens of restaurants around the world and it always seemed strange to us that while chefs take so much pride in their tools, whether it be their knife set, cast iron pans or apron, their notebook would always lie close by in a state of decay. The notebook is a place where dishes are first born, but until now, no one has made a notebook that could withstand the heat and pressure of a professional kitchen.
So using our collective experience, that stretches from kitchens to product development, we set out to make a notebook that was not only beautiful, designed to sit proudly amongst the best kitchen products, but be the most practical and sustainable tool possible.
The Stone has been developed with the input of more than 40 Michelin starred chefs from the UK, US, Spain, Japan and Australia along with UK notebook manufacturers Bookblock. Teaming up with Bookblock allowed us to develop a range of unique ideas and create samples with dozens of different finishes. After 3 three months of tweaking and improving, the Stone is now ready to become the definitive companion for passionate cooks all over the world.
Stone paper lies at the heart of the Stone notebook. Offcuts taken from limestone quarries, that would otherwise go to waste, are churned up to a fine powder and turned into paper. The result is a material that's resistant to water and grease. Butter, wine and oil can simply be wiped off with no stain left on the pages or smudging of the ink, making it a paper born to survive the kitchen. Together with the vegan leather cover, it makes the Stone notebook the world's most durable notebook.
As well as offering a unique and more pleasurable writing experience, with its smooth finish that makes a more gentle surface for writing, Stone paper does not use trees, water, chlorine, acids, or petroleum in its creation, and requires significantly less energy to produce.
The Stone notebook is made up of 7 key features, all carefully considered, designed and implemented.
As well as being both water and grease proof, the Stone's vegan leather cover is firm, yet still soft and flexible, making it an excellent alternative to a traditional hard cover. The three colours - tan brown, black and vermilion red - all have a subtle leather finish, giving the Stone a traditional quality.
As well as offering the three classic colours, there are a number of other options available including monogrammed initials, a leather cover and the Stone Set box.
For orders of 15 Stones or more, we offer complimentary customised covers. If you're a restaurant you can get your whole team using a Stone with your brand debossed or foiled on the cover. If you're a supplier or brand this is a great way of gifting your customers, clients or staff with a branded product they'll love.
With your support, we want to develop Stone into a brand that’s synonymous with innovation and quality. We already have plans to expand the range with the Stone Memo and Memo holder and there’s so much more to come.
As well as a host of exciting new products, we hope to develop a quarterly publication, written for and inspired by chefs, offering stories from beyond the stove. This will go hand in hand with our charity initiatives as we give Stone users the chance to bid on limited edition notebooks, experiences and more. The Stone notebook is just the beginning.
Risks and challenges
After working with several different mills making Stone paper, we've been able to identify the best and most reliable producer. And with years of experience in manufacturing notebooks, we can ensure you will not be disappointed with the quality of the notebook.
No matter how careful we are, delivering worldwide will always present a few issues / lost items. We will do our very best to ensure your rewards are received in the best possible time.
We hope to get everyone's notebooks to them by the end of May but, depending on the success of the campaign, there is a chance some orders will arrive a little later than that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
