Renown is a strategic, single-box, card game featuring competitive adventure for 2-4 players. While it is easy to learn, there is definite depth that comes through continued play. Renown features a blend of serious, silly, and sarcastic homage to the entire fantasy genre. In total the game takes about 3 minutes to set up, lasts around 30 minutes to an hour, and no two games are ever the same.
In the Renown card game, you take control of a unique personality from the town of Gloria’s Landing. Picture all of your favorite parts of fantasy ending up on the Island of Misfit Toys. Gloria’s Landing is a bustling town located on a nexus of many worlds. Some of the brightest walk the streets and some of the most sinister prowl among its shadows. Because of its location, the town is often beset by monsters, magic, and regular old catastrophes.
Gloria’s Landing has need of leaders and heroes. That is where you come in! Those that come to town do so seeking fame and fortune. Some rise to the challenge and are remembered for years to come, and others fall back amongst the faceless masses forgotten.
The goal of Renown is simple: you want your personality to gain enough renown to become the next big thing. You’ll gather followers, go on quests, and plot against your competition. The player who reaches 20 renown first wins.
Renown features art from a team of 12 unique artists. Each artist has brought their own special blend of talent to the cards, bringing the game to life. When we began this project we had the idea of working with independent artists, each with their own distinct style. Pairing the artists with the 12 distinct personalities has helped capture the fun and engaging characters that reside in Gloria’s Landing.
Renown is fairly simple to pick up and you can typically get started under 10 minutes on the first play-through. The mechanics to the game are straightforward and the card interaction is intuitive. If any of the players are already familiar with the rules it only takes a minute or two to setup and you will be able to get started within about 5 minutes. Below is an overview, and you can read the full rules here. You can find a full rules play through video in our Reviews below as well.

We have a good range of stretch goals planned and would love to hear ideas from you as well. We will be revealing more stretch goals when we get closer to them and sending out for feedback on which ones you might like first.
Here are just a few of the things we have planned:
If we reach the Cardstock Upgrade goal we will be adding it to the base game as well.
Stonehome Games is a small company located in Aberdeen, Washington. Our goal is to make games that we want to play so that you can play them too. Whatever we make, we want to make sure you are as happy with it as we are.
If you back our Kickstarter, you will you be receiving a first edition copy of Renown, as well as helping our little team at Stonehome Games get our start. We are extremely excited to bring you all of the things we have planned and would love the opportunity to do so. We have big ideas for the future.
Just a few things this project would allow us to do:
- We have preliminary plans on smaller additions to Renown as well as full stand-alone expansions. Our intention is that any cards made for Renown can always be played along with any version of the game.
- With the funding from this Kickstarter we would be able to include many of the stretch goal upgrades in all future versions of Renown. That little extra goes a long way.
- More games! Renown isn't all we have in the works. We have a few games we would love to show off in the near future, board and card alike.
- You are showing support not only for us at Stonehome Games, but the awesome group of artists who we were lucky enough to team up with.
Renown is an independent release by two guys hoping to make some fun games. It has been in the works for a long time now and we finally have the opportunity to share it with you. While we put a lot into it, the true labor of love came from everyone else involved. Our amazing group of artists, playtesters, our friends and family (who also happen to be playtesters), printers, and more made this what it is today. We really hope we can bring all of these collective efforts into something people can play and enjoy.
Risks and challenges
Is it finished?
All of the major design choices, rules, and components are ready for Renown. All of the card art has been submitted and verified ready to go. The only things left are the final print layout, editing touches, and to finalize the design for the rulebook.
Will it actually ship in July?
July is overshooting our actual goal, but we wanted to be safe with the deadline. We do not see it taking this long but we didn't want to risk disappointing anyone.
We are confident in our ability to get the project out on time, however their are always potential problems. With that in mind we want to be open and honest about issues, solutions, and pitfalls as they come up. Communication is an important aspect of Kickstarter, and it is our goal to make sure we stay connected with our backers as to what is going on.
You seem rather.. new?
We are. This is our first published game and our first Kickstarter. There are risks with anything new, as we have learned during this whole process. We have done everything we can to be ready for this. There is a talented team of people working on Renown to make it the absolute best game it can be. So far we have reached our goals ahead of time every step of the process and we don't expect that to change any time soon.
We are ready for this and cannot wait to see it through.
