Biternia: The Con Sol Wars
As we continue our march to victory Baldwin, our faithful Bard, wants to regale you with the continued legend of Biternia!
Previously, we learned about the dark Age of Arkades, when the ruthless Overlord ruled Biternia until he was banished by the Token Resistance and their powerful artifact. We left off with the newly formed kingdoms of Biternia deciding what to do with the Con Sol.
Speaking of Baldwin lets find out what he's all about!
The Making of a Bard
Baldwin was one of the later Heroes to be finished, and he was a challenge to design. Many of the other Heroes have more defined roles that make them easy to design -- a tank like Ceralin, the Fighter, or a ranged damage-dealer like Sterling, the Archer. We always intended Baldwin to be a "tricky" support, but it took time to figure out what that meant.
While Baldwin has some healing (Aria), he excels at disrupting your enemies and bolstering your friends. None of his standard powers deal damage, so he doesn't do much on his own. However, he truly shines when fighting with friends. His trait, Spoony Bard, boosts the attack of allies in his space whenever he uses one of his powers. This can be particularly deadly when combined with a multi-attacker like Sterling, the Archer, or Boreas, the Hunter. Appropriately enough, Baldwin is also good at controlling the tempo of the game. Syncopate stuns an enemy and lets an ally act immediately (enjoying the attack boost from Spoony Bard in the process). Timed correctly, this can be a devastating blow.
Baldwin's Contra Dance power switches the places of two Heroes, friend or foe. You can use this to isolate an enemy Hero or to catapult one of your allies into attack position. Like all of Baldwin's abilities, it requires finesse to use Contra Dance to full effect. Even Baldwin's ultimate, Cadenza, doesn't do much damage, but it both stuns and confuses any enemy hit by its area attack. Disrupting your opponent's plans for two turns can swing a game from losing to winning in one blow. Baldwin takes a lot of skill to use well, but when wielded correctly, he is one of the most influential Heroes in Biternia.
Summary: Baldwin doesn't do much damage, but he enhances your other Heroes and throws wrenches into your opponent's plans.
