An Important Message from Stoic

We weren't planning on sending this out until Monday, but we couldn't help but notice over the weekend that about 8000 people like you have donated over a quarter-million dollars in under a week, which is, frankly, extraordinarily humbling.

That's why after trying to figure out how we can really express our gratitude we decided to give you free stuff. In a week filled with more good will than we've ever seen in our lives before, we're really proud to announce that anyone who pledges/has already pledged $50 or up will get all three parts of The Banner Saga - the full game - for free. We came into this Kickstarter campaign very hesitant about making promises about the second and third chapter but we think (fingers crossed!) that we're past worrying about that now.

Let's put it this way: to everyone who donated $50, you've already unconditionally told us that you have enough faith in us to put up 500% of the game's price to support us. We think you deserve the full game, and then some.

An immeasurable thanks to all of our backers; this is beyond anything we could have imagined.

-Alex, Arnie and John

@sgllama: i chose the $25 reward, but i'm not interested at all in designing my banner (not mentioning that my art skills are like the ones of a dead cat) or having a poster, which i wouldn't use...i'm not a poster person!

At the same time i want to have access to all of three chapters for "free" :)

@Alessandro - Oops, aside from the typo, I forgot to say "bump your reward up to first $50 level" the one with the banner but not the poster. Okay. you'll be forced to design a banner, but...

How can I ignore such a sweet deal? Time to start thinking about a custom crest design. :D

@Sam Brougher - at least one more!

@Alessandro - unless there is a specific reason that you *don't* want the extra goodies (digital art book etc) I don't see that there is any reason *not* to bump your reward up to the $50 level at the same time as upping ht epledge amount.

I want to up my pledge, anyway it doesn't mean i have to choose to $50 reward to get the 3 chapters right (i'm not interested in the poster)?

    6. Sam Brougher on March 25, 2012

I wonder how many people who previously donated $25 are now jumping up to $50 (like Teppo and me).

    7. Aletheides on March 25, 2012

Upping the pledge still counts. Its what you have pledged by the end of the kickstarter that counts towards the rewards.

    8. Felix Grünewald on March 25, 2012

There goes my money ;-) Congratulations to you!

    9. Teppo Koivukangas on March 25, 2012

      Added $25 to my previous $25. :)

I think that means my promise to go up to $50 or $80 if there's Linux support means a firm $80. :-)

I have the same question as Derek Speed (chose the $25 bracket though). Thanks, and congratulations!

    12. TheChosenOne on March 25, 2012

Very nice and a great reward ofcourse.

Would love a reply on my message so I may still change my pledge.

    13. Daniel Holmberg on March 25, 2012

Wow! Much appreciated. Now get back to work so we can all play this thing already. ;)

      on March 25, 2012

Upped my pledge. Still don't feel confident about my crest-designing kill, but the entire trilogy makes it worth trying. ^^

    20. Erek Speed on March 25, 2012

If I pledged 50 dollars but selected the 10 dollar prize does that still count for the other chapters?

    21. Celeir on March 25, 2012

So, you plan get all needed resources on three parts from one kickstarter-project, right? Was game planned from scratch as trilogy or number of chapters can be increased with time till 5/10/... ?

First chapter costs $10 so three chapters should cost $30 (just logical supposition). If I want only games and don't want to pay $50 (big deal in my country! On these money I can buy 1.5-2 good collector's editions of AAA-games) can I find such pledge?

    22. Heather Sabin on March 25, 2012

Aww, I think the cockles of my heart must have just been warmed in a small way the same way you guys must feel receiving all this support. Thanks back at you for your generosity, and I'm really looking forward to the trilogy!

    23. Lim Jialiang on March 25, 2012

      Just upped my pledge. Cheers.

Well, that just convinced me to double up the ante of the investment, preorder or whatever u call it these days... kickstarter is making me pooooor....

    27. Jon Stump on March 25, 2012

I have a 10 Dollar donation at the moment. This news guarantees I will up it to a higher donation. Now I just need to figure out which one I want! :D

    28. Matthew Rex Downham on March 25, 2012

      Amazing! Can't wait!

    29. Greg on March 25, 2012

Are there special editions of the second and third games, and do they come with the $50 bid?

    30. Suzie Q Sailaway on March 25, 2012

Brilliant idea, you guys! :) Very generous too!

      kdragoset on March 25, 2012

Very, very cool. I had been thinking about upgrading for the poster but wasn't quite certain I wanted to spend an additional $25 for just the poster. This definitely makes it worthwhile. Are you planning to release the "special edition" (i.e. digital art book and sountrack) for the other chapters as well to backers of a certain amount? Or is the special edition just for Chapter 1? (Either way is fine, I'm just curious.)

    32. Stoic 2-time creator
      on March 25, 2012

@Eli: yes, to make it absolutely clear, anybody who donates $50 by the end of the campaign gets all three chapters, whether they changed their donation or not.

      Eli on March 25, 2012

Question: You said everyone who HAS ALREADY donated 50 dollars gets all 3 chapters free. Can I still change my donation to 50 and get all 3 chapters?

    34. Tuyen Tran on March 25, 2012

Weyhey, I was considering increasing my pledge to get the poster but this makes it so much easier to adjust my little number to the right.

I am very much looking forward to seeing this, and the fact that you've made enough to be able to commit to all three parts and make them into donation rewards is awesome.

    38. Stoic 2-time creator
      on March 25, 2012

@Douglas Hill: We agree that it can be a little tricky to explain. Unfortunately Kickstarter does not allow us to change the description of the prizes once the campaign is live but we've attempted to clarify things in our FAQ.

To mention it here: the game will be three parts, like a trilogy. Each part will be a complete story on it's own but go together to form the full saga. Your choices will carry over between each part. We'll be releasing each part as soon as we can.

      Thanks for the comment!

You've got a good point. We'll work on the what we call the chapters. Right now it's Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. Each one has a beginning, middle and ending, but all three will comprise the entire story that Alex has written (which is what's offered here). Chapter 1 will have a proper name before it goes live, but for now just call it Blue Harvest. ;)

Just thought I'd mention that the "three parts" vs. "chapter 1 is a full game" stuff is fairly confusing. I'd recommend you use a different naming convention for each individual game. Just saying.

Well, when you put it like that maybe I'll just adjust this little number over there and...oh look, it went up.

    48. Nick Konstantakopoulos on March 25, 2012

That's awesome but , You will do a kickstarter project for the other 2 too? or you will just publish them like every other game?

      on March 25, 2012

You guys are so awesome. Thank you so much! Stoic definitely deserves all of the funding they're going to receive at the end of the project deadline! Keep up the good work on the game!
