The Banner Saga Platform Survey

Update:  I know that everyone is curious about the results, so here they are.  The blue bars represent a cumulative ranking in which all the scores for each platform are weighted and added up.  The red bars indicate simply how many votes for number 1 slot was given to each platform.

Hello, Banner Saga fans and supporters!  We are so grateful for your help in making this game happen.

We would love to hear your opinions and preferences about which additional platforms should be targeted.  I have setup a surveymonkey survey at the following link.  It should only take a minute to complete, and will help us chart our platform porting course!

Thanks again!

I would probably play this more on my laptop or my 360, but it would be cool to have it in a small, portable format on my Vita. I mean, there isn't much else going on with it until about mid-June, anyhow.

I own a Vita myself so I voted for it as a platform. Well, PC first, then Vita. I'm amazed how much I'm liking to game on my Vita though. The screen is really nice. At the moment though, the Vita is just getting started as a platform. In my mind though...PSN could also include Vita because a PSP game could be made to work well on the Vita.

    3. Jordan York on March 26, 2012

Its not surprising that the vita did so poorly considering that there are very few people who currently own one. However, I would still like to see it ported to it :p

    4. Roman Grazhdan on March 24, 2012

OK, that's a nice chart, but what does it mean for each of platforms? It's still 27 days to go, will you set up several platform 'milestone' sums or will you just make a list of platforms you are going to support and that's it?

It's not like 'oh noez no linux i'm leaving', but I'm curious what's going to be supported.

    5. Arian Camilleri on March 23, 2012

      iPad please! Retinal graphics!

    6. Jorge Carrero on March 23, 2012

Great, thanks for answering so fast! And congratulations on your 200% funding!

PC and Mac are 100% our first targets for simultaneous launch.

    8. Jorge Carrero on March 22, 2012

I hope Mac is still in your plans as it was said since the beginning.

    9. Alastor on March 22, 2012

But I don't want you to ruin your over trying to make a phone game, work on the PC version and everyone will be happy

    10. Stoic 2-time creator
      on March 22, 2012

There were great Other entries. By far the most popular were phone entries: iPhone and Android phone. If we are able to do the tablets for iOS and Android, there is no technical reason that it won't run on capable phones. The only question is whether the screen size will facilitate a playable experience.

The additional platform that we had forgotten, and will surely move forward on immediately, is of course the Apple IIgs.

As for me the game sounds perfect for Handheld too. PC first then I would go for Andoid and IOS too. Maybe then even a port for PS3 and PSP. They lack hardcore good strategy games. Only one so far was Valkyria there.

    12. shakwave on March 22, 2012

I hope you´ll start a poll for lokalization. If the money from the backers raises much more, why not delevoping a lokalized game for a few languages?

    13. Kalvin Lyle on March 21, 2012

It's awesome to see you guys are already listening to your supporters and asking questions.

      The game looks amazing!

    14. Sean on March 21, 2012

Windows PC is essential and should be first and foremost, of course. It'd be great to see a port to android, it would have to support gingerbread and ICS, but that's more of a 'nice-to-have'.

    15. Aethelric on March 21, 2012

XBLA is a great money-making opportunity. I also voted for Windows 8 Touch, simply out of interest.

    16. Chris Norulak on March 21, 2012

Def needed on vita... its unlikely we'll get a new ff tactics...

    17. alex on March 21, 2012

      I did the survey.

      1) Xbla
      2) Psn
      3) Pc

    18. Joshua on March 21, 2012

I voted PC, then Android, then Vita. The PC experience damn well better be uncompromised, though.

    19. Jonathan Blunden on March 21, 2012

Michael Pureka, they mentioned above, 1 is highest rating, 10 is least rating.
      So like this:

      1. PC
      2. Linux
      3. Mac

    20. Michael Pureka on March 21, 2012

This is a dumb question, but I can't tell from looking at the survey - let's say I want this for Windows PC, Linux and Mac in that order. Do I rate those as 1,2 and 3, or are high numbers "better"?

    21. David Tomlin on March 21, 2012

Well said Bruce. Why would someone who supports a project like this disrupt an opportunity for someone to play a great game, regardless of platform? Some people only own one gaming device, why exclude them from a game they want to support and play?

    22. Bruce Knapik on March 21, 2012

FRMHungers: don't fanboy out here, vote with your survey, and don't threaten to revoke your support over a completely irrelevant thing like a console port being planned *after the fact*. Thanks bud.

    23. Alper Durgun on March 21, 2012

the idea is great but we need to slow down here , ipad or another mobile platforms will be ok , but xbla and psn ? sorry but im not backing a project for a console port , and i hope i wont be.

I put in an "other" vote for 3DS! I think the shadow-box effect would look beautiful rendered in 3D, and this would make an excellent eShop title.

PC only and forever! No need to spread your concentration because of multy-platform

    31. Craig on March 21, 2012

iPad and PC are only ones I'm into

I really hope that Android tablet finishes high in the list. I'd play on PC if I had to but this game is really screaming to be played on my Transformer Prime. Fingers crossed!

Why are PC and Mac in that survey? I thought they were the guaranteed platforms. I really don't want to put my money behind this if it's going to be used to port the game to consoles and handhelds (making sacrifices in the process).

    34. Jordan York on March 21, 2012

Vita is a great handheld but has a poor game selection. I hope this game helps solve that problem :p

    35. Felix Grünewald on March 21, 2012

since i really enjoy Avadon: The Black Fortress from the current Humble Indie Bundle on my tablet, I would really appreciate to see it there someday. From what I see your game seems to use quite similar controls, so I bet i will enjoy this one too. :D

    36. digitalbuddha on March 21, 2012

      (1) other (web-based like html5, flash, or unity), (2) mac, (3) android tablet, (4) win pc - but seriously, I'll run this on any platform :)

    37. Filene Taylor on March 21, 2012

Thanks for the updates, @Stoic --
I voted for the ones I'd want as #1 and #2, and put the rest of my interests at the other end of the scale.
I wish the Android market was less splintered. Developing for Android is such a headache, even if I'm going to buy an android tablet anyways.

    38. Xenophon on March 21, 2012

      PC, Mac, Linux, iPad

I use an iPad but not Mac and/or Linux, yet I would still put Mac and Linux ahead of iPad. Soooo... I put 1. PC, 4. iPad (and nothing for 2/3)... I hope I didn't break the survey system :p

I voted like #10 was the highest >:(

    41. trisenk on March 21, 2012

You really should add a detailed scale explanation to survey if you want to get accurate results.

    42. SXX on March 21, 2012

It will be great if you could add that notice to update text.
Lot of people will not understand that survey.

Agree with Nathan b, it's not clear if 1 is top priority or bottom.

Asa, point is there's a lot of users (and big money) in the mobile gaming market, it'a wise looking into it too. I agree I would love to see all my money going in a bigger, more refined PC game but, economically speaking, an iPad version would make a lot of sense.

    45. Rhys Yorke on March 21, 2012

Wasn't clear on the scale, so I assumed that 1 was the highest, ranking down to 10.

    46. SXX on March 21, 2012

I voted like 10 is lowest...

    47. Stoic 2-time creator
      on March 21, 2012

@Nathan B: It's just a relative scale. A better ranking (lower number) indicates you prefer that platform more than worse ranking. If you are only interested in a single platform, you could just mark it '#1' and ignore the rest.

    48. Tiago Morelli on March 21, 2012

same as the dudes above. there are 10 options, so i dont know if 10 is the highest, or the lowest.

    49. Stoic 2-time creator
      on March 21, 2012

PC and Mac are definitely getting made.

However, we put them both on the list so that you can express a preference for something over those. For instance, if you would RATHER play the game on PSN, you could rank PSN as #1 and PC as #2, or even #10 if you are 10 times more excited about a PSN version than the PC version. Does that make sense?

Yes. Please clarify the scale. But Linux would be my top choice.
