Five years ago, I began a project. Using only my laptop, a camera and a Facebook page, I set out to expose the threat to our children from online predators. Early on, I met my soul mate, Grime, the person who would take on this adventure with me. Using online profiles of fake underage children, we attempted to lure predators out from behind their online personas and into carefully constructed, and filmed real life meetings with me. In these stings, I confronted these men - and the world - with evidence of what they had done, and then I handed them over to the police.
We could never imagine what we'd begun - in just a few years later, what started in a small Midlands flat has snowballed into probably the most successful private investigative project in the UK: we've got 126,000 online followers, we've caught over 50 dangerous predators, we've won 15 convictions so far with more to come and there's been a major Channel 4 documentary about our work.
Our original goals have been hit; the lack of internet safety for our children has been brought to the attention of not only you, but the media and the authorities, we have been labeled as vigilantes of the cyber era; risking life and limb to protect the public. But now it's time for something new, there are other issues that need our attention.
Our hearts will always reside within the protection of children; but it's time for a revolution within journalism. It's time to bring to light the subjects other media outlets are too afraid to delve into. And it starts with you. For the last 18 months, we have been relying on one camera. Our skills and talents are not able to flourish with the restraints that the lack of funding has placed on us. The creativity of our projects have been limited to a tight budget. But with your financial backing, you can set us free. It's time for a change, no more ignorance of the subjects that really hit home. This is an age of tolerance, when it should be time to expose the shocking truth of what's happening right on your doorstep.
Myself and Grime; my colleague and best friend, have poured our hearts and soul into the projects we bring to you. Risking life and limb to show you what is really lurking in the dark depths of reality. Attempts have been made on my life to keep the truth covered up; I have suffered massive, life threatening injuries from a hit and run I was involved in just last year whilst working on a project. But that has only fed our determination and drive. It also led us to work with multi award winning director Dan Reed.
The potential for our creativity is endless, but it relies on you.
Grime and I have spent months talking about ideas for future full length releases, some ideas we have are just concepts at the moment but other ideas are firm plans we have set down.
- Creating our own stay safe online campaign designed to be shown on the internet, schools, youth clubs, homes and parent meetings.
Our own documentary that we are currently editing together that was filmed alongside our Channel 4 Documentary which will be packed with un-seen extras
- A documentary on the CPS and the Police and how they work, how they are helping you, failing you and what could be improved. Given our extensive dealings with these organisation we have experienced a lot of troubling things that we feel need to be addressed publicly and for changes to be made.
- Full length documentaries on areas in the news that we feel need more exposure and may be being buried by the wider media.
- Feature length films based on ideas and things that inspire us
Distribution of content
We aim to distribute our content via our website, YouTube and Vimeo and will explore other platforms when they become available.
Our ultimate goal is to distribute our work for free, using advertising and online monetization as a main source of income. There will be no subscription charges or pay-per-view, we truly believe that the subjects we are going to be working on need to be seen by everyone at no cost because it's your right to know.
For the past eighteen months we have worked tirelessly out of our own pocket, we have spent months meticulously planning and we are finally near completion but we need your help - your pledge, no matter how small, will help us achieve the following and much more:
We now need to safeguard the quality and breadth of this ambitious project. Your pledge is vital to:
- Greatly improve on audio quality.
- Help us branch out and do projects in different areas of not only the UK but the wider world.
- Cover overheads such as bills, insurance, travel and accommodation whilst shooting.
- Better editing equipment.
- Hosting costs for the films we create.
Buy new upgraded camera equipment.
This is the absolute minimum we need in order to carry out what we have planned - There is always a chance we could get more than we need, if we do we have comprised two other budgets explaining where the rest of the money will go.
This budget will enable us to upgrade equipment and buy our own mode of transportation which will not only save us money but also will enable us to transport equipment more securely and would bring insurance costs down.
Reaching this goal and exceeding it would open up a whole new world for us, we would be able to rent a live in office space for 12 months enabling us to find our feet and be settled so we can bring you the very best media content possibly. We don't expect to hit this goal but we figured it would be best to show where your money would go if we did exceed the £10,000 budget.
Risks and challenges
With any project or job in life there will be obstacles, if we could predict them then they wouldn't be obstacles, so we will take each day and each challenge as it comes, we will seek out advice from people we known in our personal lives and even reach out to you, the public and ask for guidance.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
