INFECTED/INSPIRED: Lyme Disease Art Anthology
INFECTED/INSPIRED is an art anthology by 16 creators, filled with visual art and poetry about their experiences with Lyme Disease.
INFECTED / INSPIRED is an anthology created by sixteen artists and writers to explore their experiences with Lyme Disease and related illnesses.
Lyme Disease, like many chronic and invisible diseases, is often misunderstood and underrepresented. As they say, “you don’t get it until you get it.” But art made by creators with firsthand experience helps bridge that gap.
When we use art as a way to release and give substance to our usually unseen struggles, we benefit outsiders as well as ourselves. The non-sick are allowed a view from our perspective. Art has a way of evoking emotions and strengthening the viewer’s ability to empathize with people unlike themselves.
To those who have experienced illness, it can be immensely reassuring to see experiences like yours represented. To see that you are not alone. To see that beautiful works can be crafted in the midst of your struggles.
We hope that this book can be a comfort to others who have lived with Lyme Disease, and that it serves as a starting point for conversation and understanding among those who have not.
ABOUT THE BOOK
In May 2017, Stina Baggett put out a call for other creative Lyme patients to help create an art anthology exploring life with this often misunderstood illness. Over the next year, a diverse group of visual artists and writers poured their hearts into the project. In the end, sixteen artists have put together 50 works depicting their pains, struggles with social relationships and the medical industry, as well as their hopes and dreams.
We hope that this project will raise awareness and help people see what we endure with Lyme, and what we create in the midst of it.
INFECTED/INSPIRED will be an 8.5x11"perfect-bound soft cover book. In addition to the visual art and poetry, it includes a foreword written by Stina, basic information about Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, artist bios, and dedications.
KICKSTARTER & FUTURE PLANS
Our ultimate goal is to use this project to give real tangible help to other Lyme patients. Before we can do that, we have to bring it to printed reality! This Kickstarter will fund the first run of books and additional merchandise for campaign backers. Every cent from our Kickstarter goal goes into production, shipping, and necessary fees and taxes.
After the successful end of our campaign and fulfillment of backer rewards, the remaining stock will be available in an online storefront. Profit from those future sales will be donated to a fund that assists families with paying for Lyme treatment.

EXPENSES AND STRETCH GOALS
If we exceed our campaign goal, we will put most of those funds towards printing more books to sell for our supported charity's benefit. Our artists will also receive a bonus payment in addition to their personal copies of the book. They joined this as a passion project, but we hope to give them more much-deserved compensation!
We also have a few small stretch goals planned:
$2900 - A third postcard design is unlocked! $5 backers will be able to choose this new design instead of "Keep Creating". Bundle backers will receive the third design in addition to "Spoons" and "Bloom".
- $3000 - A new booklet is unlocked! "Self Care Reminders" will be included as a hand-bound mini zine in all physical reward tiers, and a PDF ebook in all digital reward tiers.
After the campaign's successful end, we'll send a survey to collect your mailing address and any other info necessary to fulfill your reward.
Digital downloads will be made available to you within a few days of the campaign's successful end. We'll place our orders for printed books and merchandise as soon as possible. Barring any major delays, we should be able to start shipping rewards to you at the end of August. Books and merchandise are being managed by Stina (and a number of capable label-stickers and package-stuffers she has recruited). This means everything is coming out of Alabama, USA as a USPS First Class package. We are using mailers and boxes made out of 100% recycled materials and will make all our packaging as eco-friendly as possible!
Want to order doubles? Just add the original pledge amount + $2 to your first pledge, since you don't need to pay the full shipping fee again. As part of the post-campaign survey we'll verify that you want another copy of the book and/or merchandise!
Risks and challenges
We understand that there will always be unforeseen challenges with any project. We have done our best to be prepared for unexpected costs and potential problems with suppliers, manufacturers, and shipping.
Although this is Stina's first Kickstarter campaign, she has several years of experience in producing, selling, and shipping her own work. We will make sure every backer receives their items as quickly and in the best condition possible, and keep you updated every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
