We are choreographers Lauren Simpson and Jenny Stulberg, and we have a big year of dance and art ahead of us in 2018! Our dance company has support from residencies and grants, but there's still a gap in our budget to complete our projects and performances. Your money will help us do the following:
1. Put on three shows in the Bay Area in 2018
2. Perform and teach dance classes in Boston, New York City, and Missoula.
3. Hire and pay competitive artists fees to musicians, dancers, photographers, technicians, and filmmakers. Our work employs orther artists. Your support will reach many.
4. PUT MORE ART IN THE WORLD. Our newest work is about hope. We need some right now. Please help us complete this new piece.
Almost all arts organizations rely on individuals' support to continue their work. We are doing our best with grants and residencies, but there just isn't enough out there to sustain us. This is why we need YOU.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 in total. We are pursuing a few fundraising strategies to get there (like a silent auction and a dinner party). But the bulk of our efforts is right here through Kickstarter. Help us reach $6,000!
This will probably be our last Kickstarter before we transition to becoming our own non-profit. We just need another boost to get there. THANK YOU!
p.s. NICE BLOOPER AT THE END, YOU WON'T BE SORRY IF YOU WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk we take on as choreographers is lining up opportunities for projects without fully knowing our fundraising outcomes. (Grant deadlines don't line up with invitations to perform, or production opportunities arise with the expectation that choreographers can raise 50% or more of the funds.) Projects slated for 2018 can be completed, however, the degree to which we can pay other artists a fair and market rate for their work, the level of professionalism and production, and the amount of time we can invest in each project is at risk. We always do our best to be transparent with the other artists and producers we work so we can make adjustments to their role in projects if necessary.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
