We are Portland, Maine’s first plant-based ice cream shop! We're 100% vegan and 100% gluten-free!
We make our ice cream from scratch in small batches without dairy, eggs, gluten, cane sugar, refined sugars, or anything artificial. Organic coconut sugar, organic maple, and dates are the only sweeteners we ever use. The same goes for our fresh waffle cones, and all of the cookies, brownies, caramels, chips, and crumbles that we put into our ice creams.
We are two sisters making plant-based & gluten-free frozen treats that people can feel good about eating. We are absolutely obsessed with making (and eating!) the best dairy-free ice cream. Ice cream that is better for you, better for the planet, and that tastes really freaking good! We didn’t always plan on becoming ice cream makers, but we’re pretty sure it’s what we were meant to do. We hope to not only make a product that you enjoy eating, but also to create a business that you feel proud supporting!
We started making ice cream out of a tiny food stall inside the Portland Public Market House in the summer of 2017. After whipping up a batch of our first flavor, Sea Salted Maple, we knew that we had something special. Our customers knew it too, and people went crazy for it! We couldn't ignore the demand, so we created new flavors, made our own waffle cones, and even started packing our ice cream into pints for wholesale. We're now in six natural food stores, and we've been pumping out ice cream with our 1.5-quart machine non-stop since the first batch! We reached a point earlier this year where we could no longer keep up with demand in the 150-square-foot food stall, so we left the Portland Public Market House in search of our own production space and scoop shop. We found the perfect spot in Portland’s East End neighborhood, and we've already started renovations!
We need your help increasing production! Our little ice cream machine can only pump out 6 pints per hour. We have a product that people absolutely love, and that continues to fly off of shelves, but we're unable to keep up with demand using our current equipment. Our new ice cream machine will be able to pump out 60 pints per hour. That's TEN TIMES the amount of ice cream that we're currently producing! With this new equipment we'll be able to produce more dairy-free ice cream that will be scooped into fresh, gluten-free waffle cones and hand-packed into pints to be sold at more stores in Maine and beyond!
Your contribution will go towards a new commercial ice cream machine, commercial blenders, a reach-in freezer, a dipping cabinet, commercial waffle cone makers, a commercial food processor, bulk packaging, licensing and permits, bulk ingredients, and growing our team!
Thank you so much for helping us grow our small business! We are incredibly grateful for your support! We would not be able to do this without you!!
A VERY special thank you to our talented friend Alex for making this video for us! We love you!
And special thanks to John Crane, the general manager of the Portland Food Co-op, for letting us take over the store for an entire night to film this video!
Please help us reach more people by sharing our kickstarter page with your friends and family! Every little bit helps! Thank you!!
Risks and challenges
Like most small businesses, our biggest challenge is funding. We need funding in order to purchase the expensive commercial equipment that will allow us to dramatically increase our production. It is incredibly important that we reach our Kickstarter goal so that we can make more ice cream and meet our growing demand!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
