THE FIRST HORROR MOVIE WHERE YOU CHOOSE THE MONSTERS!
Six kickass women must fight off a horde of terrifying monsters at an 18th birthday party in this feature length action horror movie...
BOOK OF MONSTERS is a female lead, action packed monster movie drawing inspiration from the cult horror cinema of the 80s and 90s including Scream, Gremlins and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. With sick, gory practical creature effects and a dark comedic edge, the film will be a fun, bloody and sexy trip back to a time when making it through high school was truly life or death.
Sophie's 18th birthday party becomes a bloodbath when six terrifying monsters descend upon her house, intent on devouring the party guests and killing anyone who tries to leave...
As her school friends are torn apart and devoured, Sophie must rally a band of misfits and take up arms to send their party crashers back to hell. In order to survive the night, Sophie will face her destiny; monsters are real - and she’s the only one who can stop them.
The only thing is, this isn't like other horror movies. In this movie...YOU GET TO CHOOSE THE MONSTERS!

Dark Rift Films is an independent production company focused on producing original and exciting horror feature films in the UK...
Formed by PAUL BUTLER (Writer) & STEWART SPARKE (Director), we spent the better part of ten years honing our craft making short films and commercial projects before embarking on our first feature film THE CREATURE BELOW. Click Here to watch the trailer!
Made on a budget of just £12,000, the film had it's world premiere last year at the Horror Channel's Frightfest in London. Since then, the film has gone on to be released on DVD & Video on Demand around the world, helping us reach a huge audience.
Prior to THE CREATURE BELOW, we have had success with short films. CONTAINMENT was shortlisted for the Horror Channel's 2014 Shortcuts to Hell 2 competition and was included in the Horror Anthology movie's home video release.
But whilst The Creature Below was a success, we knew that whatever we made next had to be bigger, bolder and most of all, entertaining. We've been developing Book of Monsters for several years and in that time, we've learned so much from you, our audience and what you want to see in the horror genre. We really think Book of Monsters is a film you will love and in order to bring it to life, we've brought together an amazing crew full of die hard horror fans that want the exact same thing.
Returning from The Creature Below, DDFX Studio will be handling the gory special effects makeup as well as the practical creature effects in the movie. Their previous work on The Creature Below is a testament to their ability to bring horrific monsters to life on screen and in Book of Monsters, their work will certainly be cut out for them!
Dreaming up our terrifying monsters is professional artist Abigail J. Harding whose stunning artwork conjures up nightmares we can't wait to put on the screen. Click Here to see more of her work
Also returning from The Creature Below is our composer, Kyoto Dragon (aka Dave S. Walker). The UK-based retro wave and electroscape artist will be bringing a superb soudtrack inspired by cult movies of the 80s and 90s, with sounds that move throughout the synthwave genre and beyond. Click Here to listen to some of Kyoto Dragons amazing work.
Making up the rest of the team, we have gathered a group of talented crew members from across the British film industry, each of them with the drive and passion to produce only the best possible horror movie we can make.
We are honored to be working with a fantastic group of actors on Book of Monsters and we can't wait for you to see them in action when they appear onscreen in Book of Monsters! Starring Lyndsey Craine (Sophie), Michaela Longden (Mona), Lizzie Stanton (Beth), Anna Dawson (Arya) and Steph Mossman (Pandora), our cast is full of strong, kickass women who we know you will be rooting for when their life is on the line.
Also starring is horror legend Nicholas Vince as Jonas, famous for his roles as the Chatterer in Clive Barker's Hellraiser & Hellbound: Hellaiser II as well as Kinski in Nightbreed. Joining him are Daniel Thrace (Gary) and Arron Dennis (Carl), two talented actors who are playing characters we are sure you will love.
We also have some fantastic cast members yet to announce and we hope to reveal their mysterious identities over the course of the campaign!
When we made The Creature Below, all the money put into that film came from our own pockets and with just £12,000 and 14 days to shoot the entire movie, we accomplished what many would consider impossible. By the end of that process we had learned so much as filmmakers, particularly the true cost it takes to bring an ambitious idea to life on the screen.
With Book of Monsters, we really need your help to achieve an even more ambitious movie and Kickstarter is an amazing opportunity to connect with you, our audience. We are passionate about making an original, exciting and scary horror film that can only be realised with the money we are asking for in this campaign.
We want you to join us on our journey making this film and by offering you the opportunity to choose key story elements of the movie as well as some awesome rewards, we think we have a unique idea that is only possible through Kickstarter.
Book of Monsters is a labour of love to all involved, so the cast and crew and giving their time, talent and expertise for very little. Additionally, we have already secured essential production equipment, studio space and post-production facilities. That way, more of the money raised in this campaign can go towards the practical creature effects, costumes, props and gallons of blood we will need to realise the movie.
Having made our previous feature film The Creature Below for just £12,000, we know how to make every penny count and ensure that as much money as possible goes on the screen. We have spent a great deal of time ensuring that the budget for Book of Monsters enables us to make the best possible film and you can see a very basic breakdown of the costs involved below.
Risks and challenges
Book of Monsters is ready to shoot. We've spent months casting the movie, securing crew, locations and equipment. As soon as we reach our funding goal we will go straight into production. Once filming begins, there is absolutely no chance that the film won't get finished and our goal is to see the film at genre festivals around the world by August next year.
We have a history of good communication with our audience and we will continue that throughout production both through Kickstarter Updates and on social media, keeping you up to date on the progress of the movie. If you have any questions about the film or concerns about your rewards at any point, please do get in touch with us!
As soon as the film is complete we will immediately begin producing your rewards and ensure that you get the film you pledged for. We have a strategy in place to ensure that this process is completed efficiently, with all the rewards produced to only the highest quality.
We can't make this film without your help and we want you to have the best possible experience with us as you join us in making this film.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
