Hi you guys. We're nearly finished recording the dozen or so songs that will make up my new record, and I’m excited. I think it's the best writing and singing I've done to date. It's going to be a rockin' record with big drums and guitars, but there's also some quiet stuff and soulful grooves with killer horn charts. I've worked with fantastic musicians from all over the country on this one. There are also a couple surprise guests that will knock you out. The songs continue with themes I've explored in my previous records: what we choose and what we lose with family, friends, work, play, city, country, living and dying. Looking for a world we can recognize and thrive in, and what it all costs.
These are exciting times for independent artists, musicians, and music business entrepreneurs. There is more opportunity in the “new” music business than ever before. Now a lot of us indie artists can make a living communicating directly with our audience, and that audience is everywhere in the world. I have fans and listeners in every country from Finland to China and of course the US.
But to finish all this new music, I need your help. I hope you’ll consider contributing to this new cd. The money will be used to finish mixing and recording, create the artwork, manufacture the cd, and then take on the complex task of promoting it in this media-ized new world.
I think what's unique is that artists are raising money from fans who want to hear new work and really be a part of a creative project from the ground up. This site is revolutionary, really--where art, commerce and patronage combine to foster creative new work.
Music has never let me down. It's been a consistent emotional connection since I was 14, like air or water, and still is. I think I’m trying to make music with its own point of view, intent on real human connection, free from the traps of age, fashion, or era. I want to say "This has been my life over the last few years. How's it been for you?" to as many of you as I can, as a collection of friends and fans who have identified with any one of my songs.
Thanks for considering funding this project, and I really think you'll dig the record when you get it.
