The Future Boys: New Episodes! Science Fiction Audio Sitcom
Funding the live recording and digital release of 2 new episodes of 'The Future Boys', a science fiction audio sitcom by Steve Jordan.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Mon, April 1 2019 7:00 PM UTC +00:00.
Hi there, my name is Steve Jordan. I'm a writer and director, and I’ve worked on many fringe theatre projects in London, along with my partner and co-producer Ellen Gallagher as part of our theatre production group, Bad Bat Productions (www.badbat.co.uk). Three of these were science fiction comedies based on the exploits of The Future Boys, the collective term for a pair of on-the-run petty criminals named Tyler and Gary. They journey across the solar system in the far future, in search of untold riches and legendary artifacts, constantly pursued by evil forces who would prefer them dead (not entirely undeservedly).
Encouraged by the hundreds of people who have come to see the live shows, and by the many great reviews (some of which you can read below), we ran a Kickstarter campaign in 2017 to bring the Future Boys to a new medium and a wider audience. Thanks to our incredible backers - we were successful! We created the first two episodes of the Future Boys audio series and released them for free on iTunes.
Episodes 1 and 2 of the series are available to download for free NOW on iTunes, or you can listen to the episodes on Youtube via the links below.
We want to make the next two episodes in the series - but we need your help to do it!
‘The Future Boys' is a passion project of mine. My taste in comedy has always been rooted in 80s and 90s alternative British comedy, and there isn’t so much of that irreverent, gleefully rebellious stuff out there anymore. The Future Boys plays have been compared by critics to 'Blackadder', 'Bottom', 'Black Books', 'Men Behaving Badly', 'Red Dwarf', even 'Doctor Who' - all incredible compliments. I want to make this series for people like me who miss this stuff and want to see (or in this case, to hear) a fresh take on it – if you’re one of those people, we need your support to make this happen.
The goal of this Kickstarter project is to fund the recording of two 30-minute audio episodes (Episodes 3 & 4 of the series) in front of a live audience in a theatre in London, and to release these episodes online to our backers.
For those of you who are already familiar with Tyler and Gary and have attended the live shows or backed our previous Kickstarter campaign - thank you so much for your support, it really means the world to us, and we hope you'll continue to support this new project and help us get the Future Boys out there. It’s all-new material, so if you want to know what the guys have been up to since you last saw them - now’s your chance!
- Cliff Chapman – ‘Tyler Smith'

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
Every person who backs this project will be able to download 2 new episodes of the series. Unlike episodes 1 & 2, that were released on iTunes for free, episodes 3 & 4 will only be available to the backers of this new Kickstarter, and then available purchase for a small fee for those who missed out on the Kickstarter.
You will also have the opportunity to purchase rewards packages that include tickets to the live recording, signed posters, t-shirts and other cool stuff!
For those of you interested in attending the recording, we have 1 ticket and 2 ticket rewards available. The show will be recorded on a single evening, April 25th 2019, at the Museum of Comedy in London's West End. Make sure you can attend that date and location before pledging for one of the ticket rewards – and remember that travel and accommodation are NOT included. If you can’t make it – never fear. There’s a long list of other goodies that we can send straight to your door, shipping worldwide.
We expect to deliver on ALL of our rewards no later than the end of September 2019, including the episodes themselves. If you have any questions or want to get in touch about your rewards of the show itself – just drop us an email and we’ll reply within 24 hours.
Please note that the Chris Moore (blue) poster design is featured in all reward tier swag. The Will Brooks (orange) poster design features in the top £200 tier only)
All money we make over our target will go directly towards the recording of additional episodes. If we hit £6,000 - we would have the necessary funds to completely finish the series with episodes 5 and 6.
Comedy is incredibly subjective – how on earth will you know if you’ll like the series? Well, you can find some clips of the live shows in our video above, but don’t just take our word for it that the show will be funny. Here's some selected praise from the plays - Dead Static (2012), Pilgrim Shadow (2013/4), and King Chaos (2015).
Risks and challenges
We intend to keep things simple and practical. We do not promise anything we are not 99.999% sure we can deliver on. The biggest challenge we face is making sure that the end product is up to standard in terms of sound quality and editing - so plenty of the money will be used to bring in experienced technicians to help us make the recordings the best they can be.
We're experienced producers of quality content - we will deliver!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
