About

Badly Drawn Death pits you and your friends against each other in epic battles of stupidity. You must defeat your opponents while surviving their attempts to kill you in return.

With twists, turns, sabotage, backstabbing and silly drawings aplenty, Badly Drawn Death is a quick and casual game perfect for parties and game nights. Oh and of course silly drawings of bears and killer rabbits.

Players take turns to build up their health and defences, sabotage their opponents and attempt to kill each other in outrageous and stupid ways. Our 5 characters demonstrate all of these situations in the hilarious and silly drawings on each card.

As the game progresses, the danger escalates and armour resources are depleted. Players are eliminated, but before long one player emerges victorious and everyone wants to dive back in again for revenge!

We've pored the last year into creating a game that we love and we've had so much fun doing so. We've brought it to Kickstarter to take things to the next level and release the game, but we need your help to make the dream a reality.

- Stef and Gem

We have lots of awesome upgrades and we need your help to make them a reality - here's a list of awesome things you can achieve to help us make the game better for everyone...

Remember to use the hashtag #badlydrawndeath whenever you post a picture to make sure we see it!

In May we took the game to UK Games Expo and ran more demos than we can count. We asked everyone that played if they liked the game and if they'd play again and an overwhelming 99% of people said yes to both!

We received lots of great comments too...

... and here you go...

The cards in the game are to be printed on 300gm² cardboard. The game box will be produced using 1.2mm cardboard, wrapped in printed paper for a professional finish.

We have received samples of these from our manufacturer, here are some photos:

Summer 2017, creator Stef was sitting at his boring day job staring at a computer screen when an idea popped into his head.

For many years he, his partner Gem and their friends have enjoyed board games and tabletop games of all kinds. Everything from long, in-depth games that provide hours of entertainment to quick, casual games at parties.

Quite a few times ideas for games have come and gone, but this time Stef felt he was onto something.

It was a fighting game that was intended to be played quickly and not seriously at all. Fast forward a few months and a rough deck was put together and some test games played.

At first, it didn't go well. However, with some quick tweaks and a few more games, things started to work a lot better. They decided the game had potential and to take it to the next level.

The question of what kind of game it should be was next on the agenda. One challenge was finding an artist to match the themes being considered because neither Stef nor Gem is an artist.

When Gem said the name "Badly Drawn Death" they knew that was it, Stef can't draw... but turns out he can draw badly quite well!

Lots and lots and lots more playtesting, tweaking, changes, testing, more changes, testing some more and then even more playtesting and the game was ready to start showing more people!

Demo copies of the game were produced and they hit some events, the biggest being UK Games Expo in May.

The incredible response knocked them back, and after running hundreds of demos they knew the game worked well and people will love it.

And that brings us to today. Badly Drawn Death is (hopefully) becoming a reality with this Kickstarter!

We have been working on Badly Drawn Death for over a year now, but certain aspects of the project still need to be completed. Here is a rundown of our estimates for timelines after the Kickstarter has finished.

  • 1 - 2 months: remaining drawings and final game design to be completed.
  • 1 month: production
  • 1 month: shipping

These estimates bring us to December 2018. You'll notice we have estimated January for delivery of your pledges.

We have added a contingency of 1 month on top of our estimates in case there are any unforeseen delays, and to account for the Christmas period.

Throughout the entire process, we will keep backers informed with progress and any changes to the timelines and expected delivery times.

We have partnered with Games Quest in the UK to handle the fulfilment of our Kickstarter. Games Quest has a lot of experience of fulfilment in our industry and will help us get our game in your hands as efficiently as possible.

Shipping costs are estimated to be as follows:

  • UK: £4
  • Europe: £6
  • Rest of the world: £8

UK delivery will be a tracked service, however, to keep shipping costs affordable shipping to Europe and the Rest of the world will be untracked.

Tracked shipping for Europe will be available as an upgrade and is estimated to be an additional £3.

Shipping will be charged in our pledge manager after the campaign ends.

We are Stef and Gem, creators of Badly Drawn Death. We live in Leicester in the UK with our 2 ninja cats Rosa and Bella.

These misfits also helped us along the way with ideas, play testing and the kind of support you only receive from your closest friends - we thank you guys for all your help!

Risks and challenges

As with any project, there are risks and challenges throughout the process. As this is our first Kickstarter project we are aware there could be some unforeseen issues when we move through the production and fulfilment process. We have spent a long time planning and researching to try and reduce the likelihood of this happening.

We have chosen a manufacturing partner within the EU deliberately in order to reduce the risk of delays that could occur if we decided to import from further afield. We have also partnered with a fulfilment company in order to get the finished product in your hands as efficiently as possible.

The game itself should be ready for production a short time after the Kickstarter ends - as we've been working on this for some time the majority of the game's design and art has been completed already.

We've built contingencies into our timeline. Ultimately we want to get the game produced and delivered as soon as we can, but we also want to create a high-quality product that we're proud of and takes pride and place in your game collection.
