Iron age Farmstead for 28mm Wargames
Hello everyone! This is our first Kickstarter and our first crowdfunding attempt. We are very excited to see how the community reacts to our first project. Though new to the world of crowdfunding we have successfully produced other miniature wargaming pieces in the past so we have experience in terrain crafting! We are looking forward to reaching our funding goal here and also looking forward to see our backers litter their tabletops with small iron age farm yards or even larger rustic communities!
Our goal is to produce a variety of game-ready scenery and terrain pieces in quality polyresin for our backers to enhance their wargaming experience. We aim to create multiple lines of both affordable historical and fantasy 28 mm wargaming pieces that come with the option of being already painted! This means all you need to do upon receiving our product is open the package and throw the pieces down on the table! Of course we know many hobbyists love to paint their own terrain so we're giving everyone the option of selecting unpainted versions of our miniatures as well! These raw resin versions are being offered at a slightly reduced price.
Our first terrain pieces have been designed, cast, and painted specifically for this Kickstarter project. Now we are looking to crowdfunding to help us produce at least 100 of these farm sets (and hopefully even more depending on how many backers we have). We plan to accomplish this through a hired team of trained casters and painters who are ready to get this project rolling as soon as it is funded! The funds collected here will be used to pay for the time used in casting, materials, painting, shipping, and shipping materials!
We wish to someday regularly produce and retail our products, but for now these items will only be available through this Kickstarter! Any excess or left over items will be sold at limited quantities after all of our backer's pledges have been completely fulfilled at the listed retail prices mentioned below on each pledge reward.
If you are going to have livestock wandering around a farmstead, you are going to need a way to feed them. This is where structures like the granary come into play. Granaries have come in a variety of shapes and styles throughout the ages and are an absolute essential for storing animal feed. The granary we want to produce is based off of the raised variant. Standing on four legs, made of wooden boards, and containing a thatched roof you will not have to worry about water damaging your ancient corn!
Wattle Fences and Gate
Fences have been used to box in livestock since neolithic times! These organic fences are a perfect addition for the Iron Age farmstead and easily fit in with all eras of wargaming.
Our wattle fence set comes with three pieces - a gate, a wall, and a corner piece. Each piece has a sculpted mound of earth at the base.
Our fence posts were made to be impressive and tall, and the actual wattle itself sits fairly high, at 2.5 cm. We want to keep the toughest of beasts in their confinement and force the enemy to have to work their way through these fences! Our posts and lay out has also been created in a "crooked" or "broken" format to make the fence look as though it was hastily put together.
The Fence Set was the most difficult piece for us to sculpt and mould due to its size. The size and number of moulds required to cast carefully and the price is slightly higher than the granary for this item. Originally we were going to simply do one piece but we wanted to give the option for backers to rearrange their fence set and thus broke it up into multiple pieces!
The Round House
For centuries the round house was used (and is still used!) as the primary housing for many tribal groups all across Europe and many other places in the world! Made of wattle and daub, Iron Age Round houses like this were a commonly built structure, especially in ancient Briton.
Our round house is cast in one piece and was designed best for use in large rank and file style wargames. It is light and hollow inside. This allows for ease of storage and transport. It has a generic boarded door and a tall thatched roof. Although designed with inspiration from Iron Age Briton and Celtic homes this hut can easily be used to represent other historical dwellings that were not part of the Iron Age. It can also be used to represent fantasy barbarian hovels.
Our farmstead consists of all three pieces -The Round House, The Granary, and The Fence Set. Combine the three together in whatever way you see fit and build your own little Iron Age Farm!
We're also offering a double farm set for those who are interested in having twice the rustic feel on their gaming table or for those who are interested in building a Celtic Oppidum with other Iron Age pieces they may have in their collection already!
Scale Comparison with popular 28mm historical miniatures
To help this Kickstarter project reach its funding goal we have decided to include our 25/28mm Desert Empire Guard Tower as a pledge reward! These towers are already cast, already painted, and will be shipped out immediately once we receive the funding from this project!
The Desert Empire Guard Towers are fully painted and are appear as seen in the photos below!
(Miniature soldiers are not included)
We are offering this at an amazing deal - a flat $55 CAD! No shipping fees included! Ships worldwide! We created far too many of these when we began producing polyresin products and we overstocked them! We have decided to knock off two birds with one stone - offer you an amazing deal on these pieces and give us some more inventory space for the Farmstead and other future terrain pieces!
Please find the $55 Pledge option with the rest of the Pledge choices.
But wait - there is more! If you have made a pledge for any Iron Age Farmstead item reward you only have to pay $45 CAD! This item will be shipped as a separate package and will arrive before the Farmstead pieces. Please remember that only the Desert Empire Guard Tower has Free Shipping - all other Farmstead pieces have their regular shipping costs (see the shipping chart below).
Finally, we are limiting this offer to one tower per backer. If anyone requires multiple towers, please message us as we'll have to include a shipping fee for weight and package size.
There are 50 of these towers that are overstocked! If you have already pledged on a piece from the Iron Age Farmstead, please increase your pledge by $45 Canadian and message us privately so we can adjust our stock accordingly! If you haven't pledged yet and want to pledge on both the tower and a piece from the Iron Age Farmstead please add $45 CAD to your pledge and message us!

The following is a chart with all shipping costs for the USA, Europe, UK, Canada, and the rest of the world. All shipping costs are collected as an addition to the pledge on Kickstarter and will be charged through Kickstarter's shipping tool. Shipping costs cover not only the actual shipping to a backer's address but also include costs of shipping materials.
Most shipping costs are based off of the economic surface mail prices that Canada Post offers. At the scale we are producing Canada Post is the cheapest and best way to make sure our products can reach you! The following are some exceptions:
We are a company based in Canada and by law any boxed parcel shipped domestically within Canada MUST have a tracking number. This means any backer wanting their rewards shipped to a Canadian address will be given tracking. This is reflected in the Shipping Costs chart above. The costs are higher for smaller pledge rewards, but end up being cheaper for the Farmstead, Double Round House and Double Farmstead rewards! Shipping within Canada will take about a week to arrive once we've sent out your reward.
American addresses will receive most of their rewards via small packet airmail. This is a non-tracked service. Typically items shipped in this way will arrive within 1-2 weeks, though could possibly take up to 4 weeks depending on the speed at custom clearance. For those who pledge on the Double Farmstead reward - your item will include tracking and be expedited which means the reward should only take about a week to arrive. This is because this reward exceeds the small packet airmail dimensions and weight allowance.
Finally, for the cheapest options available, we've decided to offer economy surface shipping prices for Europe, the UK, and the rest of the world. There is no tracking with this service. Shipping by air and tracking to these countries is quite expensive through Canada Post and so we've decided to choose the cheapest alternative available. Through our e-commerce shipping experience in the past we have found that parcels shipped this way tend to take about 4 weeks to arrive but have taken up to a long 10 weeks! We ask for any international backers to be patient with us after we've sent the parcel as it does take a considerable amount of time to arrive.
Customs fees, duties, taxes, tariffs and or additional charges incurred at the shipping destination are the responsibility of the receiver. Steepled Hat Studios cannot accept any responsibility for additional charges imposed by the taxing authority of the legal jurisdiction of the receiving residency.

Risks and challenges
As we are new to crowdfunding we cannot guarantee everything will run smoothly. This is our third time we are producing polyresin scenery so we are confident after our first two successful experiences that we'll have no issues the third time!
The biggest challenge we think that will be met will be involving time. Our initial guess on the time required to create all of our pieces will be 1-2 months after funds are collected. The amount of orders and how many miniatures we need to paint will affect the time it takes to make and fulfill each of our backer's pledge reward so such an estimate may take longer than our original estimation.
Secondly, our items are managed by multiple people in different locations. This affects painting, picture quality, and delivery. There may be the slight chance that colors as seen in the Kickstarter photos vary slightly on the actual items produced, though our past productions in the past have had no such problem with color variations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
