Are you already in love with the White Witch of London? Then you will be excited to participate in our latest project for the Non-Newtonian Universe. Rose is going stereophonic. That's right, we are fundraising to get "The Alchemists" produced as an audio book.
Never heard of Sister Rose Caldwell or the Guild Chronicles?
It is an ongoing series, currently five books with another five in production.
The stories are set in an alternative universe very similar to ours, but magnificent steam-powered machines and magic exist. In this 19th century, three powerful Guilds vie for power behind the scenes, our heroine and her eclectic group find themselves using their unique skills to solve thrilling mysteries.
The purpose of this project is to introduce new audiences to this story world. This is accomplished in two ways, first by letting all the great Kickstarter supporters like you know about these stories, then by getting the stories into a new medium - audio.
We have also decided to explore how music can be used to get you in the mood of this world. Many writers use music to influence the atmosphere of a scene. In the same vein, JM Bannon thought it would be fun to have original music that can be used in the audiobooks or for you to just chill out to while you read.
Below in the evidence section, you will be able to listen to sample chapters by the narrator and a beginning interlude composed specifically for the Guild Chronicles.
Detective Williamson has pulled together evidence for you to draw your conclusions about the team's ability to deliver a quality product on time.
The Audio Book
The project is already in process. Ana Clements, the narrator has provided a sample of the work below so you can get a feel for what you're going to get in the audiobook.
There is an initial composition for the soundtrack for you to get a feel for where the sound is going. This music was also used in the project video. Depending on the number of stretch goals hit there will be three to ten tracks created.
Here is a sample
The Guild Chronicles paperbacks are stand alone steampunk thrillers set in the 1860s. You can see examples of JM Bannon's work by clicking on the picture of the books below.
Look what readers have to say...
There are a lot more reviews, the prequel has 128 of its own, but form your own opinion by listening to the sample chapters below.
The thing is most of us don't have time to read a book but we could listen to one on our commute or while working out, and that is why JM Bannon is seeking your help to get the books made into audiobooks. The series begins with a prequel called "The Untold Tales of Dolly Williamson".
This story is set in London and follows Detective Adolphus "Dolly" Williamson as he hunts down the murderer of an elite London banker. This all could just be part of what looks to be a heist from the bank gone bad but similar corpses begin turning up in high society. Dolly enlists the help of an ex-nun who practices metaphysics to find the killer. When they do, they discover it has more to do with a deep family secret than Wellington's gold.
This story picks up a year later, and Rose Caldwell is a constable in a new paranormal division of the Metropolitan Police Department. When her reclusive friend Preston shows up on her doorstep she knows he needs help. He hasn't left his house in three years.
Preston shares that a past lover of his has sent him a cryptic message that can only mean she is in danger. The two begin following the clues and globetrotting eastern and western Europe, in an old airship as they seek to find Lorelei Traube and reveal the true nature of the philosopher's stone.
Rose is going about her day to day affairs fighting demons and filling out reports when a break comes in the Zeus Colonial case. An entire town in the territory of Colorado has suffered the same fate and Dolly and Rose are requested to go to America to investigate.
Finally with a break in the case it looks like the device used is associated with the infamous Necronist Guild. This group of powerful metaphysicists are protected by the Emperor Napoleon and believed to be the secret behind his extended life.
Rose and the gang have a hot trail of clues they hope will finally lead to the capture of Doctor Caiaphas. Rose has discovered his true nature and understands the threat this villain poses. The problem for Rose is that the closer she gets to finding his lair and capturing him the more she realizes that she may be his most important pawn.

JM Bannon is the author of the Guild Chronicles. When not writing, his time spent reading or walking the grounds of the sanitarium, where on a clear day you can see all the way to Prague Castle. He still asserts that his books are not fiction, but factual and he has been stranded here from an alternate reality after stowing away on a steamship that could travel through the aether. His psychiatrist Dr Gustav Kreppelin allows the writing to be published and the author to participate in projects like this one as it appears to be a passive outlet for his patient's delusions.
Ana Clements - Narrator Ana always nurtured a secret dream to be an actor, but life got in the way and she found herself at university, rather than drama school, studying economics rather than acting. After a successful career in finance, she decided to follow her dream; trained as a singer and spent 6 years working in provincial musical theatre.
She has undertaken audio training with Nancy Wolfson, Sean Pratt, Johnny Heller and Yvonne Morley and spent two years taking courses in Sound Engineering and Critical Listening.
Ana's dream of becoming a performer is now a reality and she works full time from her home studio as a voice talent in audio books and corporate audio for clients in the US and Europe as well as in the UK.
Ana is Spanish by birth, but grew up in London, and is bilingual. Her assured tones belie her Tigger-like nature, bringing enthusiasm and excitement to every project.
Sonata & Scribe composes soundtracks for books. Original compositions are created to capture the motifs and settings of a book or series of books.
The delivery of the first audiobook will be May 2019
If all of the audiobooks are funded they will be sent out every other month starting in May.
Signed hard copies will be sent out by June of 2019.
USE OF FUNDS
Here is a breakdown of the use of funds from the initial funding goal.
Risks and challenges
Dr. Kreppelin assures you that his patient Mr. Bannon while not of sound mind and quite delusional is prolific in his work and has extensive experience in the production of his fantasy. While this is the first time he has brought his delusions to the Kickstarter platform he has shown a long history of producing digital and physical product and delivering it on time.
The Brookhaven Institute is certain that if the campaign is funded that under the direction of his attending physician and with the team he has enlisted Mr Bannon's ravings will be delivered in digital and physical form on time.
The most significant risk to you not getting your stuff is successful funding.
The probability at the time of this writing for a successful funding on Kickstarter is 36%, so slightly higher than one in three.
With the campaign funded the issue becomes delivery. All of the team members are veterans in producing the products they are responsible for delivering. The book audio is already being produced and delivery dates are projected with some buffer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
