Who is Steam Hollow Brewing Co.
We are beer lovers and brewers, at steam hollow beer is more than a drink. Beer is something you share with friends and strangers, beer is something that anyone can enjoy with anybody.
My wife and I want to brew creative beers for you to drink and share with your friends or just a stranger sitting in the taproom.
Steam Hollow Brewing Company is a 10bbl microbrewery and taproom in planning, we will brew beer for distribution and on site consumption, with cans and growlers to take home. We have obtained most of the funding from a local economic development fund and money we have saved ourselves over the years, the gift we get from your generosity in this campaign will go to topping off our funding needs. We are aiming for a October / November opening for Steam Hollow.
We are focusing most of our beers to be sessionable, we enjoy being able to drink all day and still hold a conversation that doesn’t end with a drunken I Love You Man... We will of course being brewing the higher ABV beers too just not as many.
Breweries cost a great deal of money to open, but we have a great business plan and financial planning so not a dollar will be spent in vain. A good plan is the key to successfully operating a brewery.
What your kindness will be used for.
Fees for licensing (city, state, and federal) and legal services
Brewery equipment (need this to make beer)
Supplies for brewing (grains, hops, yeasties, and lots of cleaning supplies)
The brewhouse has been quoted and a price agreed on, a location has been procured and we have reached out to the local farmers to take the spent grain so Steam Hollow can be as green as possible, we don't want to be wasting anything we don't have too.
Where are we located?
We will be located on the west side of Manteno, IL. The space is large enough that we can have a great taproom and be able grow into it for years to come.
What is a Kickstarter Campaign?
It’s a way to rally support from friends, community, and fans of a project or business that you want to see become a reality. Supporting a campaign can be a monetary contribution that yields rewards for you, and/or by sharing and spreading the word.
What about Da Beers?
We will brew a variety of classic and cutting-edge beers for your enjoyment. We have developed over 60 Recipes to brew at Steam Hollow Brewing Co. and are very excited to share them with you, our friends. We love to brew, we never need a reason or an excuse to brew a new beer or one we have brewed a hundred times. There is always something brewing, fermenting or ready to enjoy.
American Pale Ale: A classic pale ale single hopped with Cascade, by far my favorite hop.
Kolsch: Traditional Kolsch; crisp, easy to drink and very enjoyable beer you can drink it all day.
Raspberry Blonde: Clean and refreshing sweetness from the malts, ending with a tart lightly sour from the raspberries.
No style is too small or too big, no color too light or too dark at Steam Hollow we'll brew them all.
----- Our Story -----
Natalie and I both served in the US Navy. I served for 4 years, I was a Master Helmsmen and Rig Captain of operations I made Petty Officer 2nd Class ESWS (Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist) and received an Honorable Discharge after an injury. Natalie served for 10 years active duty and 6 years in the reserves. Natalie was a Petty officer 1st Class EAWS (Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist), before getting her commission as a Lieutenant, Natalie was the first female to earn an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS) in the VS-35 squadron. After 16 years Natalie received an Honorable Discharge.
We met in a pub through mutual friends, as luck would have it we were both craft beer lovers. As we talked we came to realize we actually served in the same command at one point and we had even met before. Didn’t take long till we were married and moved to Illinois to be closer to family. By pure dumb luck was given a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas some years ago, and since we really enjoy Sam Adams Cherry Wheat we had the bright idea to brew our own… Without really doing any research we followed the instructions but added our own ingredient, two lbs of cherries, needless to say the little yeasties and all that sugar from the cherries had a blast… and I mean BLAST, all over the kitchen, and that is all she wrote we were hooked on brewing, we scaled up our home brewery in a matter of weeks adding to it any chance we could.
When the idea first came to us to open our own brewery we ordered a few well reviewed books on opening and operating breweries, we also started hanging out with pro brewers every chance we could, asking questions and learning as much as we could about opening and operating a brewery. We didn’t want to just jump in and get caught with our pants down. Over the last few years learning from some great brewers/owners about the do’s and don’ts of operating a brewery, we are ready to make this dream and passion into a reality.
Our philosophy is great tasting beer starts and ends with people. Manteno is our home and we are proud to represent the area with its very own microbrewery. The origins of our love of craft beer started with people, and drinking craft beer with people we enjoy.

Risks and challenges
Like anything you start you find the same challenge of getting your name and product into peoples hands. We are ahead of the game here, many people already know we are coming and have raved about what we've already brewed... Short of a giant space rock crushing the brewery we will not be stopped.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
