I'v been giving the game play situation some thought as I'm sure have many of you. After watching the video and reading the comments I have a couple of predictions:
1. They have not yet, or are only just, opened the game to beta testing and have discovered that the current rule set is broken. Because of this they have been furiously revising and therefore have nothing to show us. If this is the case it's actually a good thing as we will end up with a better game in the end.
2. SFG has set itself up as the place to go for video games that want to make the jump to the game table. This was a brilliant move from a business standpoint and my hat's off to them for being able to pull it off. However, it comes with some significant pitfalls. Just like the early days of Movie IP's being made into video games, the demands of meeting a release date can result in a sub-par product. (If you want to ride the hype train you've gotta be quick)
It is not uncommon for a game to be in development for two or more years before it is brought to KS. So some of what we are noticing could be the result of rushed development.
3. The perceived problems noted in this KS; Lack of meat in the updates, lack of response to quarries and the, "on auto pilot" feel some backers are experiencing could be the result of staffing and work load issues. I've been in Kickstarters where the community manager put themselves in the hospital trying to keep up. SFG may simply have too many irons in the fire right now.
4. I think that most backers are prioritizing the minis over the game play and that's OK but if the quality of the minis turns out to be sub par the backlash will be worse then Project Elite. SFG would be wise to take this into consideration.
I advise those backing this campaign to check out a recent kickstarter from the same company. The quality of their miniatures vs the renders backers were given is very questionable. They were told the minis would be of same quality as their previous games.
Hi, will any of the exclusives included allow for the game to be played by more than 4 players (e.g. up to five or six)?
Any plans to include exclusives or expansions that will increase number of players?
@Cubeo that is correct, the conversion rate was what I wrote, as my pledge still displays in USD. Thanks for the heads-up though!
The SGs so far seem to go together as themes. Varl to Sona themed around the eclipse raiders. Two more Oseram hunters and machines. Not sure how Talanah fits with them yet, and we now have Dervahl with mercenaries and Glinthawks and those fit together pretty well. With Erend coming next he would probable be the last of that expansion before what I think it's a Carja Hunter that starts off an expansion that will include 2 Carja hunters and all the rest of the machines in the game that aren't Faro. Considering there is an expansion with 2 Nora hunters coming with the base game. The Frozen wilds expansion and now 2 oseram hunters with the Sgs that leaves only the Carja as the faction that doesn't have 3 hunters available.
I expect Faro machines to be the last potential stretch goals.
Faro machines would be a cool expansion to add.
Some people are blaming the license issue for us not seeing game play info. Clearly, the licensors care about the look of the 2D and 3D art ... but we are allowed to see every render, often from multiple angles. So why you do you think Sony are blocking game play info? That makes no sense.
The new ones look like a jackalope, a yetti, the lock ness monster and big foot. What do I win?
Those new robots incoming look like Broadheads..
But ya. I do hope they bring out some Faro Machines soon.. :)
Wow, KS backers have become real brazen and entitled. You'll get the details you require in due time, AND if you dont... pull your pledge and move on.
Dont get me wrong, a some comments are polite and constructive REQUESTS. Others come off as demands from whiney snot nosed children. "Gimme gimme gimme, now now now"
@Kyle Christopher if you look at the stretch goals, they are in pounds, not dollars
SFG has said they will give us more info when they can. We don’t know anything about the license or what it entails. I’m sure they talk more about gameplay and how the SG fit into the game when they can. There is still time left in the campaign
@MissChibi - I'm all for the excitement of free stuff - but with no idea how it's going to work, or what it will be for, or how it impacts the game is a bit "meh" when this is the 12th consecutive update that has made no improvement on any of the others or heeded any of the feedback given.
Some information would go a long way guys. But glad to see more machines on the horizon. Please do another add on / expansion for the deathbringer / corruptor.
Some story/event cards would be nice as an update and not more miniatures
Information about how the game is impacted by this SG would be much more appreciated by most backers than pics. Also, you're $200k behind the ball....
Wow these negative comments are a real bummer...
Well I'm still excited @SFG, thanks again for more FREE STUFF :D
Oh I mean update #12 everything looks the same
I'm in, back for around £300. But... you're really stretching these stretch goals out. At time of writing we're at £798,239. So that's another £147,761 to go just to add 4 more machine molds (Broadhead and Charger?) :(
Where are the Corruptor's and Deathbringer's?
Also like others have said, an explanation for all these mercs might be a good idea.
I backed Dark Souls (unfortunately had to pull out just before shipping and you were nice enough to refund due to personal circumstances), I'm kind of glad to some degree given all the noise around it.
We could just do with more info please.
I'm in so fingers crossed this turns out good.
Welcome boring update #11
Wow, another cut & paste update with no real information on what was unlocked and how it fits into the game, Is SFG even bothering to read the comments or is this campaign just totally on autopilot? This is starting to bring back reminders of the Dark Souls KS. Unfortunately. It seems there are two versions of SFG, the one that brought us Dark Souls and the one behind Resident Evil. Sadly, I know which one it is starting to feel like we got this time.
Cool. Miniatures. I'm sure they're gonna be great, but we all think it's time to start talking about production timelines, rulebooks, and mechanics that weren't covered in the video.
I'm pretty sure it must be gameplay information in disguise....
I think it's time to tell us something about this game. For example, how do mercenaries fit into the game play?
