STATUE OF LIBERTY: THE RADIANT LIFE
Hello music lovers, we are Statue of Liberty, a band out of Boulder, Colorado. We are an (ever-expanding) acoustic duo, comprised of Bobby Bradford, and myself, Marywood Kate. For the last two years we have been playing out and touring across the country, promoting our music and livelihood. In May 2011, we released our first EP, The Up State. We are now working on our second release, and that is where you lovely folks come in.
We are scheduled to record our second album, The Radiant Life, in Minneapolis this spring. This album will encompass material that we have been working on for over a year and we are very excited to have you be a part of it.
$3,500. That's it. That's the bottom line for us. With that funding, we will be able to record, pay for studio time, pay musician and producer fees, and cover mastering and production costs. However, that does not mean our goal is limited to that number. All the funds we raise will go directly to Statue of Liberty. Our extra funds may go towards adding more musicians to our next release, purchasing more merchandise for our fans to enjoy, or who knows--maybe even towards funding a veggie-bus that will send us touring all over the country! But that's another Kickstarter project... for another time...
Of course, for your generous contributions, you will be greatly rewarded. Check out our list of prizes to the right. Our rewards range from handmade guitar string bracelets, t-shirts, original artwork, CD's, to private party performances and much more. We would love to play for each and every one of you in your living room after we prepare and serve you a delicious meal. Think about it.
**PLEASE NOTE: Whatever amount you are able to pledge, you have the option to choose any reward of equal or lesser value.
THE RADIANT LIFE:
The title for our upcoming release was carefully chosen. The Radiant Life, has a special meaning to us and its incredible impact on our lives is something we want to share through our music. It's about living life to it's fullest potential, in every aspect. It's about recognizing the unlimited power we all have access to by just being human. The world is limitless, our minds are boundless and the possibilities are endless. We want to share this with all of you and hope to accomplish that in even the tiniest of ways through our next album. Live a radiant life. Be your radiant self!
Bobby and I met each other at a pool party when we were 14 years old. It didn't seem likely then that ten years later we'd begin a musical project that would bring love, success, and a world of opportunities beyond our imagination, but that's exactly what happened.
Statue of Liberty formed in late 2009, when Bob asked me to help him with a song he was working on called, Thick of It All. He wanted a female vocal on this new song and contacted me. I had recently graduated with a degree in vocal music and was more than happy to help him out. Throughout the process of writing and recording, I began to love this new style of singing and performing. It wasn't long after that when I began to collaborate with Bob on more of his material, and Statue of Liberty came to be.
We began performing live in 2010 and slowly worked up our set list. In July of that year we recorded our first EP, The Up State, in Minneapolis with our good friend and producer, Scott Miller. Shortly after recording we relocated to Des Moines, Iowa where we spent a year developing our live sound and working on material. In May 2011, we celebrated the release of The Up State in Iowa. It was a great success, and I remember thinking then, that I wanted to be doing this for as long as I possibly could.
In addition to being a full-time member of Statue of Liberty, I worked as a full-time elementary music teacher from 2008-2011. The work load was sometimes grueling, but teaching, performing and writing music was my life; and though I was exhausted, I loved it.
In the summer of 2011, Statue of Liberty hit the road for a series of mini-tours through Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Colorado. (One of these states is not like the others...) Needless to say, while in Colorado in July of 2011, I fell in love... and so did Bobby. Colorado was calling to us with it's gorgeous countryside, fantastic weather, but most of all with it's incredible, heart-warming, music-loving people. Our experience in Colorado was so profound that only a few days after we had made back to Iowa, I woke up one late-summer morning and told Bob, "let's go". In August, days before I was required to report to school for teacher development, I resigned my position, we sold most of our belongings, and packed, stacked and stuffed whatever we could into my Toyota Yaris, and Bob's Toyota Matrix. We left "home" for Colorado in September 2011.
Since making Colorado our home-base, we have been incredibly fortunate--making friends, meeting fantastic people and touring/networking in other parts of the country. We've been to New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Tennessee. We recently spent ten days in Nashville, meeting with writers, producers, and other music business professionals. Our experiences in Nashville sent another surge of adrenaline and enthusiasm through our veins, and we are really looking forward to the upcoming months of music production and recording.
Our next tour takes us through Texas during SXSW in March. In fact, we will be on the road during our Kickstarter project and you can follow us and what we're up to on our website blog and facebook pages. You can check us out here:
We cannot thank you enough, or emphasize how important your involvement in this project is. Every contribution helps, so give what you can and spread the word. Tell your family and friends what we're up to and hope to accomplish. Be a part of our success story and share the love.
Thank you! Shine on!
