About this project

POPPY AND THE MAGIC TUTU
(Copyright 2011 Kirsten Almeida. All rights reserved worldwide)

"Once upon a time there was a famous dancing ballerina hippo..."and so 'Poppy and the Magic Tutu' was born!  In August 2010, Kirsten was visiting her new Godson in Queens,NY.  While she held him she started telling him the cute little story.  Mom, MaryAnne, was in the other room napping but hat woken up to  hear the story.  She encouraged Kirsten to write the story down.  It would take constant encouragement from MaryAnne and almost eight months before she actually sat down and expanded the story into the full-length children's musical it is today. After sharing the script with a few friends, Kirsten approached her writing partner, Greta Kleckner, about helping with the musical side of things.  The two writers met several times to fine tune the script with the help of some of the Board of Advisors.  Based on their suggestions and recommendations, Poppy and the Magic Tutu continued to evolve until they had the current version.

As of July 31, 2011, the musical has had two free public readings and has recorded the official demo album of the music.  With everything happening so quickly, Star of the Day Event Productions is seeking grants and investors to fund the their first full-length children's musical Poppy and the Magic Tutu to help build the costumes and set to bring the story to life on the stage so we can tour inner city schools to introduce young students to their first live theater performance.  We also are hopeful to tour a number of children's theater festivals in the spring of 2012 in such states as Arizona, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington, D.C.  If you would like to help Star of the Day Event Productions meet their goal of $5000 please contact Kirsten Almeida, Founder and CEO, at starofthedayprods@yahoo.com or make a donation online by clicking the link below.  Thank you in advance!
