A hand-crafted chapbook you say?
Why yes! Long ago stories were shared by the chap men - Peddlers, tinkers, traveling salesmen - who sold little books for a few coins.
My name is Sherrie A. Bakelar and I write fantasy e-books. Nowadays, the indie e-book market is a sea of stories as varied as any other corner of the internet. I know writing my books and setting them adrift in this way means they are surrounded by millions of others clamoring for attention. But I wouldn't have it any other way! Making them e-books means they are available to the largest audience possible.
I am proud to say that my novels feature strong women main characters. The first, an epic fantasy set in a land of magic and monsters, about a woman who is certain she was born to save the world called Lady Warrior, Mage of Man, was released without much fanfare. When it sold better than I ever dreamed possible, I quickly finished off a second novel, Great Danes Don't Hunt Werewolves, and pushed it out the door as well. While it is an amazing story in its own right, it failed to find an audience. Well, you live and you learn and I stubbornly returned to the world and cast of characters that occupied my first novel. I'm happy to report that the second novel in the Lady Warrior Saga, The Land-Nymph Child, is nearing completion and should be available by summer 2019!
I am ecstatic about my third novel's birth and I want to be able to share that joy with my readers. What better way than Kickstarter! Yet, I can't just release the book! Kickstarters are all about the rewards...right? What could I make? Another novel? Well, certainly but not within a reasonable time frame. Then I had an idea!
Just a Trinket - A Goblin Tale
See, I write in my free time, for better or worse. That means that I have a myriad of ideas for novels, settings, and characters stuffed away in my writing file, which I have every intention of using...one day. Sometimes a character will make quite an impact on me and stick with me, day and night, clamoring to be written about. If they don't fit the story I'm working on, they'll find their way into a short story, poem, or sketch so that I can save them for later. That happened to two characters nearly a decade ago. Imagine my surprise when, as I was nearing the end of my third novel (the sequel to my first novel), I realized that it was finally their turn!
The short story they lived in for those long, dusty years, was Just a Trinket - A Goblin Tale and it's just the right size for turning into a hand-crafted chapbook!
In celebration of my sequel being completed, I offer up to you, dear reader, the origin story of the goblin hunter Furia and her hobgoblin companion Trinket, who appear in the final pages of The Land-Nymph Child.
The chapbooks will be printed on high-quality paper and made with high quality binding Their finished size will be approximately 4 inches x 3 inches. As an added bonus, they will feature custom artwork from Caragh Arfield, the same artist who is creating new, matching covers for my pair of novels...not the ones currently pictured on this project, but stay tuned for future updates!

Risks and challenges
The risks involved in this project come down to timing and schedules.
Falling behind on the novel is a possibility. I am giving myself plenty of time to finish working on it. My editor is fast enough to finish her read through in a month or so and I am only two chapters away from finishing. While this would not affect the chapbooks, this novel being slowed down for whatever reason would affect the distribution of any award packages that contain it.
Caragh Arfield will be providing art for the rewards and the chapbook. She may fall behind in her production as well, which would also delay the rewards and the production of the chapbooks.
There is no way to mitigate the challenge of time, but I am always open and honest about what I am up to and how things are going.
Although I have never made a chapbook before, take heart! I am a crafty person with an understanding of paper and projects! As this is a #Make100 limited edition, I will not have to make significantly more chapbooks if I have the good fortune of being a popular project. I anticipate being able to make all books ordered within a month's time.
The project itself will only run through to March, so don't delay! Join in the fun and excitement of a novel's birth!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
